His rendition of A Little Help From My Friends is one of my favorite songs.

Listening to NPR yesterday, I understand he became quite the fly fisherman and hiker where he lived out in Colorado.

They really are soul searching experiences.

I have a couple of friends who said they did hunting and fishing either on his place or adjacent to it. One of the friends was on casual speaking terms with the gentleman. Joe seemed to be quite the okay guy. (Although my friend is a bit of an inveterate name-dropper, and it could be a smidgen of prairie patty in the story.)

The woods are lovely dark and deep
I saw him in concert in the early '70s in Boston. It was the first time I'd ever experienced having the crowd light matches or lighters when the house lights went down and perhaps his as well. I don't know how he knew unless one of the roadies told him about it, but before he came on stage someone came out and asked us if we could do it again when Joe came out because he wanted to see it. The crowd loved it and even more people lit up their lighters and matches for him. It still makes me smile to think that something we'd done brought pleasure to someone who was coming out to perform for us. RIP Joe.

What a wonderful memory!

I wonder how he felt about John Belushi doing him?

Yes the lighter or matches thing. They are doing cell phone lights now at concerts.

From what I understand, Belushi did that without telling Joe he was going to do it. Joe seemed to roll with it pretty well. I saw Joe talk about it in an interview and I don't think he was too happy about it when it happened but he didn't know anything about the character Belushi had been doing and I think all was ok after the show.

Just popping over to agree with what y'all have already said. When Joe Cocker sang I could literally feel it in my heart.

A few days ago 9 1/2 weeks came on TV and I made hubby watch the Leave your hat on scene before he could look for something else. We talked about the fact that Joe was suffering from cancer. Sort of a mini, early tribute.

RIP and prayers for his family.
