Last night my friends invited me to stop by the residence next door for a holiday cocktail. They were watching the Broncos v. Bengals game in Spanish because it was the best streaming version available. Only I knew any Espanol, so in between shots of tequila and sips of beer, I translated the action, while simultaneously opening up my new copy of Ray Bradbury's Now And Forever, to read the intro.

As the football and drinking commenced, I began to read Somewhere, the Introduction to Somewhere a Band is Playing, and I became emotionally overwhelmed as I read how he had written the novella for Katherine Hepburn, whom he adored, and had hoped he would finish it in time for her to play the lead role on film or stage.

Bradbury writes, " Katie waited patiently, but the years passed, she became tired, and finally left this world, " and as my friends cheered on the Bengals, they suddenly noticed that I had stopped translating and was instead weeping profusely, moved by the romantic introduction and Bradbury's adoration for Hepburn.

I told my friends I was just upset because the book had made me sad. Then I stopped crying, forgot about it and went back to translating the game. A little while later, I returned to the book and began to weep again. This time I forgot I had just told my friends why I was crying and I lied to them and said I was crying because I had a migraine headache. They laughed at me and said " but you just now told us you're crying because your book is sad! " I was so embarrassed I went home.

Already? Wow, you must have really liked it. I'm about a quarter through IT for the 3rd (or maybe even 4th) time.
I love every thing about this novel. My favorite genre...my favorite writer. This book was so flowing and wonderful. I am waiting patiently for the other two novels of this series. Reading this is like enjoying a big bowl of soft serve ice-cream on a hot day. I shall not get my confectionery from an ice-cream truck, though.

I am reading Four Mothers by Shifra Horn and I think I will really enjoy this. It has a witchy feel to it and it really holds my attention.

I finished this on Christmas and I must say that it is one of my favorites. My goodness how I loved this book. I learned, I cried, I got mad and I laughed. But what I loved most of all is that my heart was broken at times in the sweetest way. It was a damn good read, I could not stay away from its pages for very long --I just had to know what was coming next. Just had to.

This lady, Shifra Horn has skills.

It's still echoing in my heart . . .

'Tis worth one of my Christmas Barnes and Noble gift cards?
