Hello there! Just curious to see if there are any fans out there for audiobook versions of SK’s stories.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve read the actual novels and story collections, but I have a 3 hour round-trip commute to work every day and find the audiobooks to be extremely enjoyable. Below is a list of what I own and below that is a list of what I’d like to purchase eventually. Two titles I hope to see released as unabridged versions are The Dead Zone and Pet Sematary.

I am currently listening to ‘Salem’s Lot read by the wonderful Ron McLarty.

Are there any that you love or would recommend?

Own:
Four Past Midnight: The Langoliers
Four Past Midnight: The Sun Dog
Four Past Midnight: Secret Window, Secret Garden
Four Past Midnight: The Library Policeman
Dolores Claiborne
Cell
Full Dark, No Stars
Everything’s Eventual: Five Dark Tales
Skeleton Crew: Selections
Just After Sunset: Stories
Carrie
The Shining
‘Salem’s Lot
Blood & Smoke
Stories From Night Shift

On my “to purchase" list:
Thinner
The Breathing Method
Firestarter
Christine
It
Cujo
The Dark Half
Misery
The Stand
Under The Dome
The Long Walk
Needful Things
Joyland

IT read by Steven Weber.

I just finished it and his reading was perfection. He put so much emotion into his performance and I'd honestly say his voice for IT is just as good as Tim Curry's. Better in fact since he was reading King's actual work.

Out of the ones I'm missing, this is the one I want the most. I'm waiting for someone to sell a good used copy at a decent price or I'm hoping to find one at a used bookstore.

Ok....so I went on a little amazon buying spree and purchased The Mist, Under The Dome, The Breathing Method, Sorry Right Number and other Stories, The Long Walk, Needful Things, Joyland, Misery, Cujo and It from my earlier "to purchase" list.

I just started listening to 'It' this morning on the way to work. I must agree with Nikkolas about Steven Weber doing a remarkable job.

I know that these are not on your to buy list, but ;-)
Duma Key, read by John Slattery
Lisey's Story, read by Mare Winningham
Perfection!!
Both are actors with real talent and how they use their voice and acting talent to make these wonderful stories alive. Amazing!

These to are my favorites :)

And best character voice; Patton reading Holly in Mr.mercedes

I have probably 20 Audiobooks and I love them all. Talk about a great way to pass the daily commute to work. I agree, Duma Key IS perfection.

Hi ! 11/22/63 is one of my favorites on audio. Craig Wasson does the narration and is spectacular! I read them in book form as well but I love listening to them. I have almost every SK on audio.

You should check your local library for SK audiobooks. My library has about a dozen, but in California there is a library sharing system called Link+ which allows you to source from hundreds of other libraries. I can get every SK audio book via that source....and they ship it to and from my library....and it's all free!

Are there radio plays too? I enjoy audiobooks, but I've been getting into Twilight Zone radio plays lately.
Radio plays aren't better than audiobooks, just a different experience. They're more expensive than audiobooks to create, but cheaper than a TV series.
Could work as a good primer for a TV series.

I have old radio plays like The Shadow. Total crack up. Love them.

Do you know if Revival is any good in audiobook?
And also if Revival will ever come out in mass market paperback format in the US?
There have been quite a few coming out in mass market paperback size lately (Mr Mercedes, Finders Keepers) or have already been announced, such as Dr Sleep and Bazaar of Bad Dreams.

I listened to Revival and thought it was very well done. I actually haven't run across a SK audio book I didn't think was well done, with the possible exception of the short story Big Driver. However, the best audio books are the ones he does himself, like Bag of Bones and On Writing.

Absolutely agree. Audios that Stephen reads are a gift. We know EXACTLY how he meant something to sound. The emphasis on certain words, the pacing, the tone, the rise and fall of loudness. I adore his readings. I wish I owned them all.

Gift is the right word, Dana. I still remember the joy of hearing King narrate On Writing. It really felt like he called me on the phone and was reminiscing about life and chatting about books. Did it feel that way to you? So yeah, definitely a gift.

Yes. I feel like he is telling me his story. They can't get much more perfect.
