Stonehurst Asylum-ODD movie, with a good cast (Kate Beckinsale, Jim Sturgess, Brendan Gleeson, Ben Kingsley, Michael Caine, David Thewlis). Set in 1899, in a mental institution. Little 'gotcha' at the end doesn't quite explain some of the eccentricities of the movie. Worth a watch, though. On Netflix.

Re-watched Sling Blade. Absolutely amazing film. I'm neutral on Thornton in general, but he knocks it out of the park on this one. The rest of the cast is stellar as well. One of the best films of the nineties.

I also watched Session 9. :( Oh dear, I wish I could get that time back. I thought it was awful. Very disappointed as I'm always on the lookout for a good horror movie, I had heard recommendations for it and I'm a fan of Peter Mullan. So wrong...

Mortdecai - Johnny Depp's performance tics may irritate in this comedy caper, but I laughed quite a lot
The Gambler - decent performances, a bit glum, and a bit "so what?"
Kingsman: The Secret Service - over the top action with comedy, much violence and profanity - think Kick-Ass crossed with Moore-era Bond

I haven't seen the 2014 The Gambler but I'm almost certain that the 70s movie with James Cann is the one you want to see. Mark Wahlberg vs James Cann - no comparison. The 70s movie is excellent.

I was never a big fan of Billy Bob, but his performance in this film is amazing. I have it on bluray and after watching the 'extra's', I have really come to admire Thornton- he seems like the 'real deal'- meaning that he isn't on the Hollywood turntable and isn't out to be a famous celebrity. He says he'll only be in a film if it's worthy of his time.

A friend of mine had never seen Fried Green Tomatoes :)wha:) so we watchd it last night. We laughed, we cried, it became part of us! Hadn't seen it in a few years and it still gets me. Now she gets the joke when I say 'The secret's in the sauce.'
LOVE this movie - I've watched it with my mom several times - it's one of her favorites! :)

I haven't seen either version so I'll have to give them both a try since I'm a big fan of both Wahlberg and Caan.

Pulp Fiction

8/10 - Pretty friggin' good. Very funny at parts. All around well-made.

Mulholland Drive

8.5/10 - Brilliant. The last 30 or so minutes were f*cking weird.
Pulp Fiction is good, and entirely unique which was the director's intention. Mulholland Drive is a mindbender, some such movies are my favorites (like inland Empire).

I think I've always like Billy Bob because he's so unique looking and seems to be in movies the subject matter of which I like.

Fried Green Tomatoes was among the movies shown in the Humanities class I took. Mary-Louise Parker was a brand new actress and I remember writing in my notes that I'd want to see more of her.

I might boost Mulholland Drive to a 9/10. Maybe 9.5/10. I haven't constantly thought about a movie this much several hours after viewing since maybe the Green Mile. It's like a mental tattoo.
It's a flexible bullet, Cappy! You're going to be thinking about it for months now. You need to watch it again. And then again.

Have you seen "Natural Born Killers?" That's a freak-out of a movie.

Pulp Fiction did have a lot of funny parts, for sure.
