Drood is good. Totally my kind of book. Tellin ya, though--drags a bit. I usually love long, long books. Started gettin impatient with it, but soldiered on, to a satisfying and effective ending. Worth a read, indeed. Drags, though.

I ordered a signed copy from the bookstore he's at tomorrow as it's the release day. Asked if he could sign/date it and doodle something for me too.I just found out that my advance copy of Fifth Heart is shipping, and I ordered a signed copy of it yesterday from The Poisoned Pen bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ. I really like Simmons' historical volumes.

That's one of his better novels! I think you'll like it!Just ordered my first Simmons book-- a hardcover of Summer of Night
Where'd ya get the ARC, John? I kept looking for one on Ebay but only about three of them showed up. The first one went for over $200, then the prices dropped drastically after that one sold. You got an excellant price!I just got my ARC of The Fifth Heart. $20.96!!!
My signed copy is on the way.

Sounds a little similar to Drood, where he used real characters and a fictional one invented by Dickens. One that wasn't even finished. I love how he throws in the odd oddness in his books.I recently finished The Fifth Heart -- it's an interesting concept. He has often used historical figures in his fiction, but this time he combines a historical figure with a fictional one! I've never met Dan in person, though we've corresponded off and on for many years. But he's coming to Houston on the book tour and I plan to meet him for the first time there.
The one that you're reading! CC was my first foray into the Simmons world. I have the original Dark Harvest hardback copy that I take with me whenever I get to see him in person. It's a tradition and it makes him laugh everytime he sees it! He's signed/dated/doodled it five times now. This last time, when he toured for The Abominable, he opened it up and said that 'If I get famous this is going to be worth ALOT of money.' I laughed and said that he already was famous and he'd better not die anytime soon. That made him laugh. So, CC was my first and then I read Song Of Kali and haven't looked back since. Summer Of Night is my second fav. He's an awesome writer! Does justice to whatever genre he decides to write in.I'm reading Carrion Comfort , its the second Dan Simons book Iv read/reading. I absolute love it and have been enjoying it form the first page
kingricefan just out of curiosity, what is your favorite Dan Simmons book?
The best i read from Simmons was Carrion Comfort. But Summer of Night was good too....That's one of his better novels! I think you'll like it!
