Famous for his song When a Man Loves a Woman, Atlantic Records' first gold record, Percy Sledge died today at the age of 73 following hospice care for cancer.

...he was one of R & B's best...and the raw power he put into his signature song, along with the emotional edge-made it one for the ages...

I must have seen it at least 6 times when it was in the theater. Never really even heard of Bette Midler before then and she just captivated me and stole my heart in that role!! She really did deserve an Oscar for that film, her acting is simply, well, divine. The songs are so drenched in emotion and are perfect for the movie.
