I struggled with it because I felt the characters were shallow.
They weren't as fleshed out as King's characters usually are.
I tend to get so engrossed by a story that you care about the world and the people that inhabit it, I found myself to be particularly unfussed if the main characters got mullered or not with CELL. That for me was where it fell down.

Exactly! Perfectly stated (same for me .. what MBJ said...)

Took me 3 or 4 goes at getting into it but persevered and enjoyed it

Hi Rich - I actually finished it, but it was a struggle. I thought it might be "just me" but had no problem getting through Revival (which I actually read BEFORE I read Cell) and am having no problem with Full Dark, No Stars. Just not the kind of book that speaks to me I guess.

Upon reading this thread, I have learned something about myself as a reader. Thorough character development is apparently not necessary for me to enjoy a story if there is enough action lol. It never even crossed my mind as something to care about when I read it. The action carried the story from beginning to end for me...and quickly.

That's a great observation. Cell is NOT a "bad" piece of writing, just not for me. Well said
