Under your bed
JOHNNY GUITAR, dir by Nicholas Ray, 1954

Odd little western. Lots and lots of talk, obvious McCarthyism subtext. Joan Crawford all dolled-up like a well kept grave, about as sexy as a cigar store indian. Sterling Hayden as the title character, Ernie Borgnine, John Carradine, Ward Bond. Another good Nick Ray flick.

Edna was voiced by director Brad Bird, and based on legendary costume designer Edith Head. I think it's a coincidence that she looks a bit like Linda Hunt, google Edith Head and you'll see that the visual is obviously based on her.

The Lincoln Lawyer (2011) Matthew McCanaughey, Ryan Phillippe, Marisa Tomei

A good adaptation of the book (the book was fantastic). The biggest problem with the film vs book is that there isn't enough time in the film to properly portray the changing relationship between lawyer and defendant. It's a much more complex and interesting relationship in the book. But all of us here already know the book is always better than the movie. ;-D

I never read the book, but, did see the movie and thought it was "average" - will have to make time to read the novel.

I watched a couple of movies with John Cusack in them today.

The Prince with Jason Patric, John Cusack and Bruce Willis. It was about a former gangster (Patric) who comes out of retirement to get his daughter back from a former rival (Willis) whose wife and daughter he accidentally killed. John Cusack had a minor role as Patric's former partner in crime. All in all it was pretty lame. Waste of the talent they had at their disposal.

The Numbers Station with John Cusack and Malin Akerman. It's about a CIA operative (Cusack) who is supposed to be keeping an eye on a civilian contractor (Akerman). It was OK. Malin Ackerman is awfully easy on the eyes :)

Welcome to the Punch-James McAvoy, Mark Strong, David Morrissey This showed up on Netflix and I remembered that I wanted to see it when it first came out, but it didn't come here. Decent crime flick. Out of the three McAvoy (one of my favorite actors) made close together, I'd put this one in the middle: I liked Trance more, but Filth marginally less. He makes interesting movie choices--always up to see what's next.

We also watched Mad Max and The Road Warrior (haven't worked up to Beyond Thunderdome yet--I remember finding it laughable when it first came out). It's been a very long time since I watched either, and I thoroughly enjoyed both. I don't think I ever knew that Brian May did the scores for these (and the new one--not sure about Thunderdome). He did a lovely job with the three I know about--used music the way they did in the 40's, to enhance the emotion without being a 'gotta buy that CD' marketing stunt. Nicely done :)

Watched Interstellar with Matthew McCoughnehey (whatever). Overly long by at least a half hour. Brilliant FX. Why does Christopher Nolan continuously use the same actors in his films? Yes, they're good in their roles, but there are other actors out there. Lots of familiar faces here. Matt Damon is in it. Didn't even know he was in it till he showed up on screen. Saw it at my brothers house and due to noises around me I couldn't immerse myself into the experience like I can at home, so I'm going to have to watch it alone at home with my surround sound system to finally decide whether it really is an above average sci-fi film.

Tomorrowland (2015)-About a former boy genius (George Clooney) and a teenage girl (Britt Robertson) who team up and go on a mission to find a dimension of the future. I thought the visuals were great and the "journey" to getting to Tomorrowland is fun, but once the characters are there, the movie felt flat and rushed to me.

Riding the Bullet-I had no idea a movie had been made of this story, but there it was on Hulu :) I can't remember the story very well (and what I think I remember I suspect might be a mix of RtB and The Road Virus Heads West), so I watched it on its own merits: I enjoyed it. It was campy in the way The Dark Half movie was campy--Garris definitely took a page from Romero's book of filmmaking for this one. Not a groundbreaker, but for a popcorn flick it was fine :)

Brian De Palma's Casualties of War. It wasn't bad at all, but it did feel a little unfocused, and a tad melodramatic.
