I'm really surprised Mr. King again passed up the opportunity to finally collect great tales like Weeds and The Crate. I thought they'd show up in this book for sure now that they both have been recently reprinted in several anthologies. Any idea why he chose to keep them uncollected, Ms. Mod?

I wonder if he would consider doing a small book of maybe 10 or 12 earlier uncollected stories at some point? "Weeds" and "The Crate" have been reprinted recently as you mentioned and so have "The Glass Floor" (in Cemetery Dance magazine) and "The Dark Man" (as a Cemetery Dance collector's edition). Some of the other poems were collected in an anthology within the last decade, I believe. Then there is "The Night of the Tiger," "The Blue Air Compressor," "Man with a Belly," and "The Reploids." If he wanted he could even include "The Revelations of 'Becka Paulson," which is a bit different from what was inserted into "The Tommyknockers" or even "Stud City" and "The Revenge of Lard Ass Hogan" from "The Body." There's also the unpublished "Squad D."

It seems to me that this would be the perfect length for a slim, relatively low-profile paperback release similar to "The Colorado Kid" and "Joyland" (although Hard Case Crime probably isn't a good fit in this case). I hope he will consider releasing something like this at some point to tide us over in between collections of new stories. If he doesn't, maybe Richard Bachman will.

I'd buy a copy of that.

I'd be on this like white on rice. :eagerness:

Question for Moderator:

The absence of the collaborations with Joe Hill and Stewart O'Nan have been explained. The only other published work I can find from the past decade that remains uncollected is the poem "Mostly Old Men" from the August 2009 issue of Tin House. Is there a specific reason why it isn't included that you're aware of? I haven't read it, but I can't imagine it would take up too much space. So does he simply feel that it's not up to his standards or was he (or the publisher) just stuck on the number 20 for the collection? Or is it something else entirely?

Thanks!

No particular reason that I can think of. It could be as simple as that we all forgot about that one when coming up with the list of recently uncollected stories, etc. For that matter, we don't even have it in the Library and am embarrassed to say it's not ringing any bells for me.

Ms. Mod, any idea about my earlier question re: old stories such as Weeds and The Crate that recently appeared in a few anthologies, but were not collected here?

The only explanation I'm aware of is that he was trying to keep more recently published stories in this one that haven't been reprinted in other anthologies.
