I agree with Pucker. Watching their loved ones die was most disturbing, I think.
Besides the Lincoln Tunnel scene, I was creeped out by Stu escaping the CDC in Vermont. The guy who says "Hey beautiful, come down and eat chicken with me!" Something to that effect. Also, when Nadine realizes she's damned. She sleeps with Flagg and she felt cold inside. Couldn't get warm.

Im not sure that there is a particular part of the book that terrfies me.................. but .................. i did find it eerie and unnerving when i put myself in the position of various characters and tried to imagine how it would be knowing that the world, as i know it, has ended. Little things like knowing that the community itself has died...... no more people going about there everyday business, windows in houses like the lifeless eyes of humanity - hiding the corpses of their former owners. Everything stopping and nothing returning to life as it is known

I think Lloyd had some kind of learning disability or had been abused as a child, so perhaps was not "Firing on all cylinders" - yes he is evil, but he is also weak.

He was indeed dumb. And he knew it. Without someone leading him, he would not have done any better than (failed) small robberies.

He realized he was somewhat better after meeting Flagg, but still needed his notepad (mirror image of Nick, ain't he?) to remember what he had to do.

I like your analogy to Nick. But, don't forget Nick was deaf.

And mute. Yes, not easy to forget. :heheh:

But I like how it can visually link them. Also, Nick may be able to communicate even without it, but Lloyd would be lost and (perhaps) back to his old self if he did not use it. Although Nick's thoughts were clearer when he wrote them down, even for himself (I liked the fact he does lists; I really like doing lists, so it may end up being the only thing I share with my Nicky).

Other characters have some other similarities and mirror images, like Trashy and Tom, but we see how the good guys come on top even with their weaknesses, while the bad guys fall short.

It was 2 in the morning when I was reading the last stretch of this book and
when Trashy shows up to the execution with the bomb and is dying of radiation poisoning
and that scene was illustrated in my copy, so at 2am I just suddenly see
this detailed illustration of Trash dying in a terrifying way
and if that doesn't give anyone the heebie-jeebies, I don't know what does.

I never found this story scary, it felt more like a fantasy novel to me, but if I was going to pick out a moment that seemed creepy to me its when speakers fell over and Flagg was saying 'HOW I LOVE TO LOVE NADINE'

Sorry if this should have been under a spoiler, I'm not sure how to do that

You can find the instructions for this and many other functions of the Board in the User Guide, but to do a spoiler:

Spoilers

You can either type in the coding yourself by typing:
[spoil3r] the words you want hidden followed by [/spoil3r] (just replace the 3 with an "e")

Or highlight the words you want hidden click the insert button
insert-button.png
, and select Spoiler.

Go to the Written Works area and then click on the area you'd like to discuss, e.g. Novels and that will open up the list of all the titles of Stephen's books. Find the one you'd like to read about or discuss and click on that title and all the discussions related to it will appear.
