There is only one word Stephen uses that I cringe at. Just one. I will actually say, "Awww Stephen" because it is such a vile word to me. But maybe not to others.

BUT, when he does use it, I know exactly what type of person that character is. He has to use it. He has to stay authentic.

I have never mixed up Stephen King with the characters he creates. Not once. They are separate entities.
And what is that word ?

The C*** word. I absolutely loathe the word, but, if a character says it, I know immediately what kind of character I'm dealing with.

THat word doesn't offend some people. Males and females. But to me, it carries a whole world of hate in it.
....if I slip and let that fly, when I'm cheesed off about a certain instigatory female at work-I know I'm gonna catch hell from Tracy.....

I despise that word! Along with the 'n' word. And the 'f' word, not the one that rhymes with duck either.

There are some words that are just vile. But, some just don't have a worry about using them, and that's their prerogative. We give words the power to hurt. Unfortunately, sometimes it's hard to remember that.

Bad people do and say bad things. It would not be realistic if a fictional character in a story does not behave like they might in real life. It is interesting that some people take offense at language and sex depicited in books and movies but not care so much about the violence. That might be an America trait dating back to the Puritans. Who knows? I do know from attending King events that he is not reticent to use profanity even though there are some younger kids in the audience. I don't find that objectionable but rather the contrary that it is refreshing to see someone not acting PC all the time and worrying about offending anyone. There are going to be some people in the world who object to just about anything.
