I was walking through a bookstore the other day and noticed a display for Doctor Sleep, in a mass market paperback edition. I thought it must have been some sort of display made by the bookstore itself, not on behalf of the publisher just releasing the book in this format (after all, didn't it come out a few years ago?).

Now, though, I noticed that the mass market edition of Sleep is on the Publishers Weekly bestseller list for that format. The book debuted at number 19, and it was reported to have sold 6,000 copies. Which is a bit unfortunate, although because of the timing, I can understand it.

My question therefore is: was there another paperback edition out before this one, maybe a trade? Also, is this a new way of doing things for the publishing industry, delay the mass market edition for a while? I usually deal in hardcovers, so I'm sort of out of the loop on this subject. I think we discussed before about sometimes only trade paperbacks being released, but I forget the specifics of that exchange.
