Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933--duh). We're in the money, we're in the money, we got a lot of what it takes to get along...not really. Great Depression-era musical comedy (who knew Dick Powell could sing?), a little pre-code raciness (hubba hubba) and Lordy, I think I'm in love with Ginger Rogers. What a class act. She didn't dance, though. No Fred Astaire, so...

I watched Brooklyn last night about an Irish girl in the 1950s coming to America. Simple and enjoyable.

The Longest Ride--story about love, bulls, art, and old people in the 40s, geared toward teens and the romantically fantastical. Bring some chips to dip in the buckets of melodramatic cheese dished out. I must say that Scott Easton is very watchable though. He looks so much like Clint.

I knew who you were talking about. He is so handsome. I have The Longest Ride recorded, only because I recognized his name. So cheesy, huh? Glad you warned me. I will watch though, to see Mr. Handsome. Will eat rotel dip while I watch.

St. Vincent with Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy.

Caught it on Netflix. Wasn't bad. Not Murray's best but it was enjoyable. McCarthy was not way over the top in this so that was a bonus. I do find her funny but she can be so overbearing at times.

I loved this.

That one was pretty good. I remember liking EXPLORERS when it first came out, but I haven't seen it since. Dead Snow is funny/gory, and Event Horizon... not easy to describe. I think I liked it (I've watched it often enough), but I watch each time in horrified fascination.

I loved Explorers in the 80s (we were partying when we watched it, got the giggles big big). I remember not liking Event Horizon though. Maybe I should try it again with my 47 year old brain.

Best street fight in a movie ever imho....

I agree. It would have been a crime to put Rowdy Roddy in movie without a great fight scene.

For best girl fight, I nominate Pam Grier in Coffy. Clothes get ripped off, food gets thrown and Pam pulls a razor blade out of her hair to finish things off. It has everything. ;-D

I love Ginger Rogers in MONKEY BUSINESS, with Cary Grant :) No dancing again, but boy could she deliver a line with snap and sass!

EVENT HORIZON is just plain unsettling. I really don't know if I like it or hate it, but I've watched it multiple times.

Star Trek: Into The Darkness (2013)

What a frustrating movie. The first 2/3 of this movie is outstanding and then the filmmakers did something monumentally stupid with the ending by
copying the ending of Wrath Of Khan and flipping the roles of Spock and Kirk.
. For most of the movie, this is a very good prequel to Wrath Of Khan and then the ending just destroys the movie. This is the second time I've seen this and it still boggles my mind that this movie got screwed up so bad at the end.

I dig what yer sayin. So many movies wanna do that same crap. Tell the same story, just flip it around a bit (The Force Awakens? Bleh.) and act like they are all a buncha Yodas. Screw em, says I.

Like this new Ben-Hur remake. You think yer gonna top the amazing William Wyler? Go ahead, snow flake. Take yer fookin shot.

Skyfall (2012) Daniel Craig

My second time around for this top notch Bond flick.

I like reading the reviews (critic and user) on IMBD. You have to sift through a few morons but there are plenty of good insightful reviews there. So here's the question: Have you ever run across a movie where the user reviews seem to be part of an agenda conspiracy? Once in a while I see this and am puzzled by it. Skyfall falls into this category. If you look at the 1-10 rating from the users, it's 7.8 (averaged from thousands of users) which is pretty high plus it was very well received by the professional critics. When you look at the user reviews and comments, they are overwhelmingly negative and a large chunk of the reviews rate the movie 1 with extremely nasty reviews. With a 7.8 rating, I would expect to see more than half of the comments and reviews to be positive but that is not the case here. What causes this? It's almost like it's being done by a group of people with some kind of agenda but I have no idea what that could be (maybe a bunch of people that worked on the film that thought they didn't get paid enough? ;-D). I come across this once in a while and I find it odd. The negativity of the user reviews seems way out of proportion for this movie.

Black Sunday: One of John Frankenheimer's best films, based on the Thomas Harris novel. Intense from beginning to end; I almost had a panic attack due to being so caught up in it. 3 1/2 out of 4.

Lakeview Terrace: Samuel L. Jackson has never been this menacing, as a cop who makes the lives of the interracial couple next door a living hell. A taut, if sometimes unpleasant thriller in the vein of Pacific Heights and Unlawful Entry.

Taxi Driver: A New Hollywood classic by a great American director, concerning the gradual crack-up of Robert De Niro's Travis Bickle. 1970's New York and psychotic breakdowns make for a hellish, but unforgettable experience. A must-see. 4 out of 4.

Saw Black Sunday a ways back (early / mid-90's) after I read the book. I remember it being pretty good. Been trying to get a copy from Netflix for a re-watch.

Haven't seen Lakeview Terrace.

I've seen Taxi Driver a bunch of times. Just saw a 40th anniversary screening in 35mm back in July. The print was awesome. Scorcesse's best film in IMHO.

Deadpool. Oh hell yeah. Finally. I totally dig it. Makes me laugh at all the lame cats what were surprised when then realized it was R rated. 'Oh, a super hero movie ain't supposed to be like that.' Oh really? You didn't grow up in the Bronze Age, doofus, nor did you expirence the bloody eighties. No one ever said comic movies were fer yer damn kids. Yer basing yer beliefs on those lame 50s and 60s TV shows (Batman and The Adventures of Superman, Derf). If so, you haven't followed costumed crime fighters since the dawn of their existence.
