One of my favorites will always be Hear No Evil See No Evil. I can't think of a movie he was in that wasn't great. Huge loss today.
I laughed until I cried at the theater when I saw that one!

Gene Wilder has passed. This is more a description than a tribute.

I don't mourn. I celebrate. I first saw him in "Blazing Saddles," and it was revolutionary for its time, and it reduced my date (later, my wife of now 42 years) and I to helpless mirth.

Of course, he went on to deliver a career of laughs, both gentle and raucous. He found his life's love and, by the accounts that I've read, enjoyed life with her until her untimely end. Perhaps they are together now. I hope so.

At the end, he was 83 and apparently suffering dementia. I will channel him and some of my other friends a little bit in saying: We don't fear death. We fear incapacity, and if we're at that stage, we want it to end. I do hope he left us comfortably.

And Gene Wilder left us with a legacy of love and laughter, and I cannot think of a single sordid or unpleasant moment attributed to him, on screen or off. I don't know how you leave memories better than that. Heck, I can't say that will happen with me. Can you?

His life is to be honored. Thank you, sir. I hope your crossing was pain-free and that the beyond, if there is something to be experienced, will be in equal or greater measure than what you brought to us. And what you brought us was immense.

I had very brief encounters with Wilder and Radner. The very first book signing I ever attend was Gilda Radner. That must have been around 1983 or so. I used to see Wilder in a tennis shop in LA. Always seemed like a very polite fellow.

I wish I had had the chance to meet Gilda. I loved her so much, she was so funny! I hope that her and Gene are together again.

I grew up about a mile or two from the town where Peter Ostrum, also known as Charlie Bucket now lives.. He is a veterinarian in our small town. I still live close but not right there. I think it is cool that Charlie Bucket lives in my old home town.. And of course as the holder of the golden ticket, now he can take possession of the Chocolate Factory.. due reverence to Gene and of course Mr Ostrum..
