Strange Brew (1983). Heh heh, take off, you hosers. Bob and Doug MacKinzey guzzling beer, munching doughnuts, and frying back bacon. Beauty, eh? If that's life in the Great White North, sign me up.

Jesus, I haven't seen that in years...lol I think I have it on DVD somewhere...classic. "Give 'em a jelly doughnut or he'll kill us."...lol

A Face in the Crowd (1957). Elia Kazan directs this Bud Schulberg story of a drunken Arkansas nobody who rises to fame and power through the shifty machinations of media and advertising--heady stuff for 1957, and even more so today. Andy Griffith's first starring role, and...whoa! What a performance! A rather sinister role, like Andy Taylor's evil doppelgänger. Weeee doggies! With Walter Matthau and Lee Remick. Another fine Kazan flick.

So I was able to get a bluray copy of Dune off of Ebay for cheap and finally watched the movie. I have never actually seen the entire thing only bits and pieces of it when it was on television. I know, I know, blasphemy from me because it's a David Lynch movie, right? Well, yes and no. Yes because it's a Lynch movie and no, because, well, it really isn't a Lynch movie. Even Lynch realized that after the studio turned his 4 hour movie into a 2 hour and 17 minute version. He even made them take his name off of the credits and insert the fake 'Alan Swithey' for awhile. So, I watched the short version and it's okay. There's a lot of things going on that aren't explained, which probably are in the long version. I think Lynch was in over his head as he did Dune after the success of The Elephant Man and Blue Velvet. Dune is too convoluted of a story to be told in 2+ hours, it's needs the 4 hours to tell the tale. Kyle MacLachlan is good, but he's 'green' and trying too hard. Music by Toto (!!!) threw me for a loop too.

Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed

Hammer film from 4 BFSD (or 1969 for those of you that don't know BFSD stands for Before Swift Dog ;;D)

Peter Cushing as Baron Frankenstein. Directed by Terence Fisher. It was pretty good. Hadn't seen it before. Different for Cushing to be a bad guy in a Hammer film.

Why don't you join the Halloween movie thread and post your October movies there?

Why don't you join our October movie marathon thread and post your movies there? All for fun!
Ok, I only gave it a cursory glance, didn't understand the rules. Is it a competition? I don't watch that many horror movies. I enjoy the King films and the nostalgic ones from the '80s. Maybe I will look closer at that thread, thanks.

NO! All it is, is a place for people to tell us what they are watching for October, give us all ideas. You can watch as many or as little as you want. Everyone is TRYING to watch 31 for the Halloween holiday, but that isn't a HAVE TO at all. Just for fun. Everyone hoping to discover some real gem they haven't seen. And that includes old stand bys to the newer stuff. And, many of us re-watch our old favorites just because we have too!
