It is an incredible thing. I opened a lemonade stand when I was 7 with my cousin up in New York. We worked all day to earn fifty cents a piece after paying our parents back for the lemons and sugar. I bought The Drawing of the Three at a yard sale next door with it. I had no idea who he was but I was so determined to buy something of my own and it was the only thing that caught my eye. I had no idea it was apart of a series and was so confused but it sparked an interest in reading for me. I'm very open about my past but I will spare you the novel; I had a pretty insane childhood and I would read his books just to be terrified of something I knew couldn't hurt me until I was given an old beat up copy of Rose Madder. I actually was wearing a blood stained shirt from a broken nose I received for speaking out of place the month before and I had never been so terrified of his words. The book mirrored my life only my Norman was my father. I found so much solace in the idea of a magical world other than the one I was in that I some how gained hope that the world outside my home was much better, and it is. I'm actually in therapy to bury my dangerous seeds now and I am rebuilding my relationship with my parents. It's incredible the power words have in the right hands.
...beautifully said, and I hope your recovery is successful....children should never have to witness OR be subjected to abuse....EVER....if talking with myself, or anyone in this Community is therapeutic-then by all means, talk away...I'm an RN, not a Mental Health professional-but I know a little.....

Thank you! And thank you for your community service! Almost all of my cousins are RNs (including the one who was with me when I bought my first King book) I am apparently one lucky son of a gun. I've had three therapist and a psychiatrist tell me they were amazed I was functioning so well without being institutionalized or having a substance abuse problems. Yet another thanks owed Mr. King. My love.of reading turned into a love of writing and that has actually kept me sane enough to not need anything else. I coexist with CPTSD, GAD, OCD, depression and bipolar. I'm proud to say I am even prescription free and have been for a few years now, because of writing. As you can tell I'm wonderful.at prolonged comments haha

At one time Stephen answered all of his letters personally. However, he came to realize that he had to make a choice between answering letters or writing books. As you can see, he chose the books and has left answering letters to his staff. He does not have a public email address. If you would still like to write, please let me know and I will send you the office address privately.

I would love to send a letter his way: (I recognize this is another persons post, however I am a little lost)

Hello! Like most people here, I'm a big fan of Mr. King's. I'm doing an assignment for school, and I was wondering if you would be able to give me an address to send a letter to. Thank you!

Moderator, I know the question has been asked a million times. I also have read and know the response about writing Steve a letter and the likely hood of it ever making it past the mountain of others that get filed away, but I would still like to try. May I please have the office address so that I can write the letter and take my chances of it being read. I promise to not take the Andy Dufresne approach of writing a letter a week. One will be good enough for me. I really have nothing to lose but a ton to gain if it were to happen. Can you please assist me with this request. I appreciate your time and look forward to the response.

I realize he has the staff respond to letters, but does he ever get a chance to read them personally? I would also like to send a letter if he's able or has the time to read it.

That rarely happens because of the time factor. Every so often one will stand out that we will pass on to him but otherwise only staff reads them.
