Weird, those six degrees of separation. One of those mentioned in the article, Bryan Fuller, who is the showrunner for Hannibal, was also the creator of Dead Like Me. I was just thinking about that show today. I'm sorry to hear Jonathan Demme has passed.

Wow, this is a shock. He had so much talent as a filmmaker. It is always hard to adapt a book for the screen, and the results are usually disappointing. How much harder it must be, then, when the book is a solid-gold, once-in-a-lifetime masterpiece like The Silence of the Lambs. And yet Demme took this perfect book and breathed life into it, gave it a human face, made it speak, and sent it off around the world to enchant and terrify millions... As far as adaptations go - well, can anyone name a better one?

Job well done, Mr Demme. Job well done. Nobody ever did it better than you.

Here's hoping that he is rewarded by some TV station announcing a season of Jonathan Demme films. That would be a very fitting tribute, and would show everyone what a brilliant talent he was.

The film adaptation of Silence of the Lambs is one of the rarest breeds IMO, and that is when the film is actually better than the novel. No disrespect meant for Thomas Harris, as I love the novel (and Red Dragon before that). The movie is a perfect storm of casting, direction and screenplay. About the only other example of this sort of anomaly is the film The Godfather, which is head and shoulders above the original novel.

Very well said sir. Casting Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter was a stroke of genius imho.
