Hello, I'm an indie - game developer now doing a project similar to the film and the story in 1408 , I want to know if I could design such a release for sale and if possible how much you need to pay for the rights that belong to the author ( Stephen King ) Thanks for your attention .

The game rights were probably sold along with the film rights as that is common in contracts now. You'd have to check with the producers of 1408 instead of Stephen for permission.

I think it would be a massive problem to translate 1408 to a game, even the movie must have taken quite some thought: the written story is so very based upon the abstract and what is impossible to see. The dread Mr Enslin feels upon hearing the voice in the telephone, for instance: that horror was not quite possible to convey in the movie. I'm not saying it would be impossible, but I DO think it will need some real steel backbone to take on the transformation of the abstract senses in 1408 into a game: the equivalence of a series of tasks. Can it be done, good on whoever takes it upon him or her!

I could see a game of this being similar to Silent Hill: The Room.

Stephen King was actually one of many influences for Silent Hill and the original story drew on many themes from across his books. In the game you can see his old "Study Dammit!" poster on the wall next to a pinball machine game taken from the Children of the Corn movie.

The original story had a psychic child, a cult trying to draw her power for their own use to birth a demon, a fanatically religious mother and child abuse, "otherworlds", a Bachman Rd. and even more.

Another game that I have read programmers admitted Mr. King as an influence is Earthbound for the SNES. A game about an otherworldly evil beyond human understanding and a group of kids with psychic powers banding together to take it down. There is even a spider involved in the final battle.

I have to say I am amazed at how many people and projects Mr. King has influenced with his writing. What a great contribution to bring to the world.

One of my favorites. I've never finished the first one though I've heard it said that it was the only game Shinji Mikami ever played twice (after losing his first run to a corrupt file save.) If you haven't played the third installment there was a fan translation that was completed a number of years ago that can be patched to a rom file if you can find it.

I tried to beat Earthbound with a game genie once and it wouldn't let me finish the boss battle. Giygas wouldn't die. lol

Haven't seen you online in a while, yeah the first one isn't very good but you have to appreciate it for the gaming masterpieces that are 2 and 3

Yeah it has anti-cheat measures to make sure no one tries to beat the game unfairly. It makes the enemies harder and more common but if your stubborn enough to get to Gigyas it makes him literally impossible to defeat
