The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks

Well put. I'm going to hunt up the other titles you mention.

    The Troop

Sounds a lot like The Ruins, makes sense that Smith endorsed it. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Mr King getting flack on twitter?

It really is eye opening. Remember this isn't some right wing politician they are hounding, this is Stephen King, who has championed liberal causes all his life. And yet they'd be happy to destroy him for one ambiguous tweet that didn't meet their standards.

    3 Greatest horror novels?

Mr King was too modest. Clearly, The Stand should be among the 3. I'd also put The Terror over Carrion Comfort.

Mr King getting flack on twitter?

This is what bothers me, the forced homogenization of opinion that brooks no dissent. If you don't think like us, you are guilty of thoughtcrime and we will hound you out of the public square.

Mr King getting flack on twitter?

Gracious, as always. The last line says it all. Its a sad commentary on our society that he even had to say it.

Mr King getting flack on twitter?

I think Woody is probably guilty as hell and am appalled at Hollywood's willingness to look the other way, but I think they are being too hard on our boy: Stephen King Tweets About Dylan Farrow and Woody Allen, Sparks Outrage | TIME.com I didn't read his tweet as a defense of Woody or blaming...

    The last dance *spoilers*

I thought this was the most masterful ending King has ever pulled off. I loved everything about it, the last dance was such a wonderful send off to a beautiful romance.

    Robert Rick McCammon

Swan Song is like The Stand. Boy's Life is more like IT.

    Dan Simmons Anyone?

Summer of Night is hugely underrated, and the sequel, A Winter's Haunting is even more so. Imagine a sequel to IT

Oh man, Harry Crews looks awesome but none of his stuff is in e-book format :(

    Your Other Favorite Authors

No I haven't, friend, but I'll sure look them up. Nothing I like better than finding a new author! By redneck lit I mean stories about rural folk, whether set in the old west or the current day.

    Awesome book, one small criticism

On the flip side, one of the things I loved about Dr. Sleep was the connections to NOS4A2, and vice versa.

    Ah, sweet, thanks!

Great grandma, and we're told she is dying when we meet her.

    Awesome book, one small criticism

I loved it, don't get me wrong. But he didn't I can live with it, we're still BFFs. Can't wait for next year's offerings.

    Dan Simmons Anyone?

There's a lot to like about Dan Simmons. Summer of Night and A Winter's Haunting are very Stephen King like, and very well done. He turned his hand to scifi, and proceeded to write the most popular and influential series since Asimov's The Foundation. More recently, The Terror, omg what a...

Anyone else a fan of The Dresden Files?

It started because I was desperate for something to read and someone had given me the first 3 books in the series. My first impression was not positive. I'm not into detective novels or wizards, so all the way through the first book I'm wishing I had something better to read. Fairies and ghouls...

The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks

Yeah it made me squeamish too, but its not American Psycho graphic, more like how King might approach the subject.
