The real Brian Williams would have said, "remember the day Mr. Mercedes struck at City Center... I was there!"
He was probably there when Roland reached the Tower as well :)
So, some of you people here have me some great reading recommendations the other week. I was looking for fantasy literature similar to the Dark Tower. Admittedly I have never read any Tolkien, but I picked up a copy last week at a used book shop, and I am almost finished with it.
Reading this...
I think "19" has been brewing in his head for a while. Even Roadwork, an early Bachman novel, alludes 19, with Highway 478 (4+7+8= 19) being built through Bart's neighborhood.
11/22/63 strongly references another classic... It!
I am not sure Dr. Sleep really had any direct DT connections. Other than room 217 from The Shining is mentioned.. and you know... 2 +17= 19. Dark Tower School of Higher Mathematics.
I would suggest these titles if you are interested the Dark Tower. While Roland himself does not appear in these novels/stories... other Dark Tower characters do.. enjoy!
Hearts in Atlantis- (novella- The Low Men In Yellow Coats)- This story features breaker Ted Brautigan in Connecticut, while...
Well.... you got to remember, I was just an awkward kid who loved SK, growing up in the Bible Belt! My teachers did not always share my love for Sai King. They just didn't know what they were missing.
Was curious if there are any other novels similar to The Dark Tower by other authors? I know the DT series is a one of a kind, but I'd be interested to know if anything comes close at all?
Also, as far as SK's universe goes... what are some suggestions outside of the DT novels proper that are...
I actually must amend my post. My first actual experience with Stephen King was when Children of the Corn premiered on television when I was in 2nd grade. I didn't realize until years later that the movie was based on a SK short-story, and at the time, had no clue who SK was.
I remember...
Sadie most certainly would have remembered Jake on some level... and with that said, upon reading this thread, I am fighting back the sniffles. The end of 11/22/63 made me cry like a little kid. Most emotional ending to a novel ever.
You know... I saw the mini-series on tv back in high school and I really didn't enjoy it very much. It was hard to take the main villain seriously when he is wearing a Canadian Tuxedo (i.e. denim jacket with tight denim jeans) and a mullet. However, as an adult, I reconciled that the movie was...
We are blessed to have two novels this year, indeed.
Especially since we just had two fantastic new novels last year in 2013.. Dr Sleep and Joyland.
SK still churns out quality material, so I'll be anticipating them!
My 1st SK novel was Rage. I read it in 7th grade. I think my mom was just happy I was reading. Probably had no idea WHAT I was reading. I remember picking it out of The Bachman Books because it was the shortest one and I wasn't a very fast reader. I ended up reading IT next (I was inspired to do...
I know SK has done the whole "twinner" thing with The Talisman/Black House, and some in the DT series (and of course Desperation/Regulators). I'd like to see SK do something similar with maybe... The Stand characters. Maybe have them living in a small community (such as Under The Dome). Stu...
So I am a life-long SK fan. I've read only about half of his body of work (short stories included). I admittedly read lots of other genres and authors, but I always find myself returning to the world of SK. And only having read about half of his work there are fortunately always "new" novels to...
So it's been a year since I've read The Stand (read it over Christmas holidays last year), and this is the one SK book that I really, really want to re-read at some point (I'll get around to it when I finish the other 700 novels on my to-do list!). Anyhow, reading these threads here has reminded...
