I was curious if I made the right trades I have two books of THE SHINING without the jackets. I traded a Miles Davis and Hank Snow vinyl albums for two THE SHINING books one has R49 tan and the other is black with a R52 or 3 I was wondering more about the later. Is it a first edition from the book club or not a 1st edition at all?

Even if it is a first edition, without the dust cover does the book decrease in value?
On most books, the dust jacket is around 50-75% of it's value. You could have a real nice 1st edition/printing of Carrie without a dj and might be able to sell it for $100 or so (I once found one in a used bookstore sans dj and got it at half what they were asking, which was $50- so I paid $25). But with a decent dj you could sell it for 5 times or more of that $100 price. Always, always put those dj's in a Brodart-like cover to protect them.
