Luckily i own all my King. Couldn't bear to part with them. Is there actually this romour about library policeman going around among kids? I saw King mentioned he got the idea when he heard his son Owen talking about the Library police man. Haven't heard anything similar here but is it an american thing?

It's an old saying. Librarians used to tell kids to make sure they brought books back on time because they didn't want to have to send the "Library Policeman" after you. There's never been any such thing. But many kids, when they were told that, got scared.

I finished The Dark Half a few weeks ago and have been reading some other authors but as soon as I'm done with Boy's Life by Robert McCammon, I'm planning on my next SK re-read. I'm not sure which one yet, but I'm thinking maybe Needful Things (which is not on the short list I made in an earlier post - typical decision making for me ;-D).

By the way, I enjoyed The Dark Half the second time around. I thought the ending was great as you get the impression that this story isn't over with. This is one of SKs endings where things seem extremely fragile.
Needful Things is always a win in my book. It would also be fun to reread it right after Dark Half!

I am still reading this one. I have been so interrupted in my reading lately, but so far I am liking it.

I looked through Storm of the century (got it on DVD a few days ago) and it was really good. I felt like a break in reading King so i watched this instead. (I also watched some episodes of Alias but don't tell anyone, OK?). When i started this project i decided to throw in some watching King adaptions too. Have The Stand and IT (the tv-series) waiting in the wings. Actually never saw them before. Was fully content with the books.

I love Storm of the Century! One of my favorite King movies ever.
The Stand and IT are pretty good too. Even though they are somewhat cheesy in parts.

I haven't posted in here for a while but so far I have read:
Carrie
Salem's Lot
The Shining
Rage
Night Shift
The Stand

Next up is The Long Walk. I'm reading the books in order of publication along with the Stephen King Revisited website. It's been fun so far.

Good to see you back on here! Can you do us all a favor? When you start The Long Walk can you keep a list of what kids die? Some of us are trying to figure out who the kid is that dies and then is inexplicably back in the story (alive) later on. It's a mistake that King made when he wrote it and it made it past an editor and none of us can remember the kid's name. It would be much appreciated.

I will do that. I had no idea that was in there! I just started it yesterday so I will go back a bit and start that list tonight.

Well into Hearts in Atlantis... Much better than the last time i read it. Perhaps because 1. i know a lot more of the 60-ties american political arena now then i did then and 2. I hadn't played hearts and was unfamiliar with the rules then. I am not now... It is a game that can get a grip on you.... Feels very much like my first term on university, heck, feels like my first three years at university.... Somehow these tests and papers wrote themselfes in some way i don't understand to this day because i always had lots of other things to do than study and people to do them with!! Makes me nostalgic just thinking about those days..... "Where have all the flowers gone" and so on.

I don't remember that.. But it would be pretty creepy to keep a notebook of dead kids, nonetheless. :disillusionment:

Just read through all 10 pages of this post and I am enjoying following along. I have re-read Duma Key, Revival, Mr. Mercedes, Drawing of the 3, Wastelands, and Wizard and Glass so far in 2015. I've read the screenplay of Storm of the Century as a first time read this year.

I'm tempted to just go back and read my very favorites: IT, the Stand, 11/22/63 but I should branch out. Really if I'm going to branch out I should read a different author but there's so much KING to choose from why bother?

If you're looking for other authors in the vein of King, might I recommend JOE Hill, Robert McCammon, and Peter Straub?

It was definitely a little creepy. :icon_eek:

kingricefan Mission Accomplished! The back-from-the-deed walker is...
Milligan
He dies a couple of pages into chapter 14. Then (at almost the end) in chapter 17 he's back as one of the 7 walkers still alive. He dies for the second time a few pages later.

So, on to how I felt about the story. I had forgotten how brutal this one is. There is just no mercy all the way through. It struck me that this is basically the same story line as The Hunger Games. But I think SK did it better. I really liked The Hunger Games but it had a lot of extraneous stuff that wasn't necessary to tell the brutal tale of kids dying for entertainment. I sure hope our reality TV never gets to that point!

Next up will be The Dead Zone. It's one of my favorites but I think I will wait a bit. I'm ahead of the reading on SK Revisited so I will read something with a little more fluff. :biggrin2:

Thank you so much for doing that!!! I will now write down the name and place it in my copy of The Long Walk and keep it forever!
