There's been some chat already about where the 2018 SKMB King Kon will take place, so... I'm havin a thought, Barbosa.

Since there are relatively few King-related locations, and since plans for the next Kon in 2018 sounds like it's going to be a revisit to Maine, how 'bout we put all Kons in the foreseeable future on regular rotation? Bangor Maine, Mansfield Ohio, then Colorado. Over and over. That way, there's no muss, no fuss. It's all settled and there's no need to worry about it. Only to save up.

Thoughts?

If I'm still in Phoenix in two years, then it needs to be in Phoenix. Otherwise, I'm good with the New England Area. I guess that goes without saying, let's try Ogunquit. It was mentioned in The Stand, if I'm not mistaken. I used to work through grad school as a cocktail waitress at the Cliffhouse there. It's a hotel with a view and some haunted history which I can personally attest to. There are a myriad of Stephen King related locales in that area:eek:ff the top of my head I'm thinking Laconia ( oh my God there's an awesome duck restaurant called Hickorystick Farm there) or North Conway. Derry, Hampshire is not in Maine and it has nothing to offer but the Robert frost farm and America's Stonehenge ( hello standing stones, hello Pet Sematary!!) The thing about the whole Massachusetts- New Hampshire-Maine area is that you can drive through all of the states in a few hours. You can visit Boston and Salem, and within a few short hours you are crossing the bridge to Maine! Then you get to stop at the Kittery Trading Post on the left, right after that there's an awesome clam place. If you keep driving north for a few hours you get to L.L. Bean. Unless they've changed everything, it gets better for the North you go! There's Boothbay Harbor and Bath, and I won't even get into Vermont right now, but there's a place called Stowe and smugglers notch. There's also a restaurant called the Skyline on the way to Vermont.I can't even describe the view and the atmosphere in words right now so trust me, New England is where it's at.
My only other suggestion is Florida, and that should seem obvious. I've been to Florida couple times, I've also read Duma Key. Depending on what time of year the next con happens, maybe we should choose according to the weather.

...we talked about this in Colorado, and there are a number of other potential spots after Maine....and I would like Deb913 to weigh in, because she came up with them...do not want to steal her thunder....she done good....

Thanks, Scott. :) Although, it wouldn't have bothered me a bit had you just put some things out there.
First, I know the prison that they filmed Parts of The Green Mile is in Tennessee, but they no longer let people inside to see it. So, maybe that's not as exciting as it could be. I suppose it could always be checked into...maybe the owner would do a private tour for a few of us?
The castle where Rose Red was filmed is in Washington. I know they do tours and the place is open for business. That is a place I would love to see.
Nate mentioned that the movie Stand By Me was filmed in Oregon. Also parts in California, but that makes that part of the country SK related as well.
I am positive there are other locations that have SK cool things, too, but I'm not remembering any at this time.
If distance to travel to a Kon is keeping people away, maybe one of these places would allow others a chance?
(Sorry those of you not in the US, I don't know anything about SK related things anyplace else. I don't mean to exclude anyone or anything.)

I like the Rose Red idea.

I have always said that the people overseas should have their own Kon! Why not? We have many British members, they could all get together at a pub and raise a glass or two to the board and Stephen King, Ms. Mod! Yes, they wouldn't have anything to tour, but it's about friendship and just getting together to chat too!

I completely agree. The activities at the Kons have been fun, but NOTHING compared to just spending time with the people from here.
When are you going to attend a Kon, Dana Jean? Would love to meet you!
