Dang. Crows are r-e-a-l-l-y smart, but talking? Dang.

Maybe Jake and Lulu can take some lessons.
You're talking about crows.. pah, you should hear ravens when they got going. They don't assemble in big crowds very often but when they do they do they could talk the hindleg off a donkey. I saw, and heard, a Raven Parlament once. Hundreds of ravens talking.

Someone gave me a book for Christmas about wild animals and one section was on the difference between Crows and Ravens - cool book!

I lived in Fort McMurray, Alberta before moving to Edmonton. It sorta scared me seeing ravens for the first time when I moved from Newfoundland. I must say I learned to love and admire them. We talked about their intelligence when I was taking BIO courses in university. They are truly amazing. They are tricksters and thieves lol. They play king of the mountain and can utilize sticks and such as tools. Grand bird, tis.

I was a bit confused when i lokked at the video since the bird was black. In Europe the crow is not all black. It exists black crows too but the grey variety is more common.

The ornitologists are still arguing if the grey crow is a subspecies or its own species compared with the black crow.

That sorta looks likes a Canadian magpie....except it doesn't. Scratches head*
Wow - last night I was going to comment on the very same thing. When we first went out to Alberta we were very impressed with the magpies as we had not seen any in Ontario.

They are really cool birds and they come from the crow family as well.

I like the iridescent tail feathers and they are quite pretty when the sun glints off the feathers.

I agree. Much prettier than the crow, at least the european variety, i think. Here in sweden you can often see crows and Magpies have hot arguments about something. If i could translate it i'm sure there would be a lot of insults in there. Mostly they just just scream at each other like drunken sailors, language not for the innocent to here, but sometimes they fight too. About nests i think. My fave member of the crow family though are Kajan (I think Jackdaw in english). A little smaller than the rest but with intelligent eyes. The most impresssive though are the Raven.

A couple of years ago when I used to cycle out in the country, Spring time would always be a worry... the Magpies are mean (& scary) buggers and (I suppose rightly so) defend their nests with a vengeance.
There were several spots that I had to cycle like the very devil was on my tail because the birds would dive bomb me as I rode past their tree/nests.
I found the best way to stop them mid-bomb, was to shout loudly and wave one arm above my head... not so easy to do while going up a steep hill and trying to change gears! :biggrin2:
