The "Cecil" thread in "Hot Topics" reminds me that I threw a new submission to the blog the other day. It's a fiction piece titled "Happy Hunting." Not inspired by the Cecil story. Not consciously, anyway.

Oh dear  I followed the link to your blog, Grandpa, and my vigilant little Mac told me there be malware on it. Somebody has hacked it out of envy, perchance? Now I really must see it!

Well, that isn't good. I don't know how that could happen, but I'll talk to ... well, I'll find out who I need to talk to in order to make sure the site is clean.

All righty then. I just spent an hour with my hoster and north of 140 bucks to get my site debugged and swept clean, and I'm a little better educated now on moving forward. Why in the world someone might take some effort to hack into some old guy's "vanity" story site is beyond me, but there we have it. Assuming that's what happened.

The hoster suspects that someone planted a file to get my password off of it. I've got open registration on the site, and I noticed that a number of the new subscribers have an .ru address (I mean, "spambog.ru"? Should I just delete that one automatically?). But who knows.

In 24 hours, I'm supposed to request Google to rescan my site to made sure it's clean. I've done the security things that my hoster has asked me to do.

So thank you all for the notifications, and here's hoping that this supposedly simple part of my life is going to run smoothly again.

If "spambog" is the email address I would definitely delete, it screams of a disposable address to me, used particularly for spam accounts.

Thanks Grandpa and I'm sorry you're having to do this. (It did cross my mind (and this is awful) but your site provider isn't the one you paid the $140 to is it? It would be awful if the host site attached malware and then charged users money to clean it up. Maybe I am just paranoid... :a11: )

Thanks, Flakesie. I think paranoia is the stock in trade tonight.

I hesitate to mention my hoster, but it's reputable and the support was wonderful. They went through a site analysis with me, and I honestly do not believe that sabotage like that is in play here.

I'm hoping in 24 hours, this is an issue of the past.

No, no need to mention the host. (It wouldn't make sense for the provider to do that anyway, it'd be like shooting themselves in the foot, word would get around very quickly and nobody would use them... it's just hard to trust people online, I think... so many individuals out there with bad intentions.)
I hope it is all cleared up for you soon too, I'm sure it will be.

All righty. I was told all malware (they did find some) has been removed and to go to Google and get a site ... something. Review or routing or something. Anyway, I did. It should be all clear. If anyone tries to go to my site and you get an ugly warning, please let me know and what browser you're using.

I've also been schooled on keeping the site safer. It's a Wordpress site, and it's important to keep Wordpress updated so security flaws don't get exploited. I wasn't worried about it before. I just wanted to keep things simple and upload my writing. But apparently there's a rash of stupid malicious pric... errr, people out there who have nothing better to do than to cause trouble for others. No real purpose. Just injure others.

Whatta world.

Thank you Grandpa... :) and I hope they won't target you again, it's awful how many jerks there are out there.

Good evening, sir.

My laptop got infected when I was playing a game not too long ago. I tried to look for a solution but the malware kept *jacking* the downloads to rid my laptop of the virus. (It's not really a virus. That's why my Norton and other safety programs I have on my computer couldn't/didn't detect them. It's a *piggy back* program.)

Blah, blah, yadda yadda....Yeppers. The gentleman who FINALLY got rid of the dahm thing from my laptop told me, hackers will just pick people at random and install a virus and when the hackers see *you* install software to rid the virus they play with the software and keep ahead of you. (I didn't make ANY sense there. Ha!) (I'm pretty sure you get what I'm trying to say. You understand Siggy speak.)

Hopefully, those MFkkers will tire and leave your blog alone.

>>hugs<<

Peace out.

Three titles uploaded to Amazon. You've already seen the book covers in the thread, so I won't repost them.

Up and Down: A Collection of Short Stories
In macabre, suspenseful, and even humorous stories, we go through a midair mystery, the mind of Abraham Lincoln, a gas attack, and a beast that is near mythical in stature. Along with some other things.
Up and Down: A Collection of Short Stories - Kindle edition by Jason Meadors. Literature & Fiction Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Chance Encounter: A Novella of Suspense
Two strangers meet in the night rain on a lonely country road – a young woman in handcuffs and a man walking away from a deadly event. During their time together, secrets slowly emerge as they embark on a journey of escape and sinister exposition.
Chance Encounter: A Novella of Suspense - Kindle edition by Jason Meadors. Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Out of Time: A Novella of Mystery
In a mystery of international flavor, archaeological experts unravel clues of antiquity that seem impossibly out of place and just may have staggering impact on all of humanity.
Out of Time: A Novella of Mystery - Kindle edition by Jason Meadors. Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

I priced them a dollar lower than the Kindle analytics advised (advised: $2.99 each; my price: $1.99 each). I'm a new author, and they're short books. I didn't feel right with what they proposed.

Now, maybe if they sell, I can charge in with more confidence when the upcoming novel, Tomas (tentative title, but the book is done, and it's truly novel-sized), is released, scheduled next month. But that's another story. Literally.

There are people here who have helped me. Your kind advice, encouragement, and critique has been invaluable and is reflected in everything that I'm publishing. Thank you so much.

Added the stories to the Nook store. Oh, that was a joy, reformatting all the stories for a different bookshelf, uploading, reviewing, reformatting, lather, rinse, repeat. Or not.

Up and Down - A Collection of Short Stories by Jason Meadors | 2940158013157 | NOOK Book (eBook) | Barnes & Noble

Out of Time - A Novella of Mystery by Jason Meadors | 2940158013133 | NOOK Book (eBook) | Barnes & Noble

Chance Encounter - A Novella of Suspense by Jason Meadors | 2940158013126 | NOOK Book (eBook) | Barnes & Noble

Someone's going to tell me I just have to put them in the Apple store. I can feel it.

Anyway. I've got a relatively short novel finished that Gracious Host/Koontz type readers would enjoy, or so I'm told by a few Gracious Host/Koontz type readers. I was just going to self-e-publish, but I'm doing the dreary route of pitching to agents first just to see if there's a nibble.

And then another regular-sized novel in the wings that is more like Important Literature, at least to my age-addled mind. It's finished but is on simmer till I get back to it and start the editing that it desperately needs once the first pass was done.

I've got two others started. Not sure which one to go with first. "Which one would sell?" my friend asks. "You think I write these things because I think they'll sell?" I respond.
