Has anyone else with mobility difficulties, remembered rip, rip, rip (thank you Stokely) going through their head, when they're schlepping around?

Here's the thing: it never crossed my mind when I was still using crutches, but now I use a self-propelled manual wheelchair (a truly cool machine) I do think rip, rip, rip. . .

I thought, while reading the book, that it referred to the sound of the rubber tip as it contacted the ground. Or, perhaps considering the era, the squeaking of wooden crutches.
