I'm starting at the beginning and rereading all of SKs books.I just finished Carrie and even though I knew the story it was like reading it for the first time. So much so that I started to doubt that I had ever read it. (I know I did). I agree with others here that reading as a parent gave me a totally different perspective on the story. I was an awkward 12 year old the first time around so I could only relate to Carrie. As a grown up and a parent I discovered a whole new level of horror in the story. I completely enjoyed this reread and look forward to the rest.

Because I can get wordy (sorry!!), I tend to focus on places on this forum where I've already contributed. Then sometimes, when I have a few extra minutes, I actually look at the sections and find a gem. Like this section and this thread.

At one point in my life, even maybe up to today, I had The Stand and The Dead Zone just about memorized. It wasn't that I was a fanatic. It was just that they were so enjoyable that I could pick them up anytime, anywhere, open to anyplace in the book, start reading, and enjoy it. It was like a favorite song on the radio. You tune to it, it's in the middle, and you listen to it and like it the same all over again.

Someone on the first page of this thread, I think, felt like a heretic for not liking The Stand. Well, no. We all have different likes, different tastes. I know IT is a huge fan favorite, but I had to use brain-bleach for that and Cujo to get past those works. Just my tastes.

Nothing wrong with revisiting an old friend. Sometimes those visits are really nice.

I have so many books that if I read a new one every week, I would never get to them all before my life is done....
but I still reread my favorite Stephen King books on a regular basis.
I've read twenty-eight books in the last six months. Seven of which were King re-reads. I'm on the same page as you. :)

I most always re-read. Like mustangclaire said way back in one of the first posts, I read the first time quick-quick probably because I am excited.

Then I go back and really re-read what I already read when I read it fast..

*(I will not change that last sentence. It deserves some sort of non grammar award, and it will stay as written.)

That sentence made perfect sense to me. Therefore, I find nothing wrong with it!

Lately I've been re-reading a lot of Kings books I have not read in over twenty years. It's amazing what you take away from a story once you have a bit more age and experience on you.

absolutely, totally agree with that statement.......... plus i pick up details on the second or third pass that clarify relationships and situations i missed on the first pass. with my memory trashed due to my age rereading a tale from my past is sometimes almost the same as reading for the first time.

Very true. And it is AMAZING what you forget. When I read the Dead Zone a year or so ago it was like reading it for the first time (almost) i remembered big chunks that was totally new to me. And i thought i had such a good remembrance of that book....
