Took me long enough! Well, here goes. I've been a fan since Carrie. I love the way Stephen King doesn't tolerate hypocrisy. It seems to be a strong theme in most of his works and I love it.
About me; I'm old enough to remember many of Mr. King's references to pop culture of the 50s and the 60s. They get me nodding with recognition. Like pretty much everyone here, I've read just about everything he ever wrote. I've been to Bangor Maine and spent time on the Penobscot Bay. Cold. Even in summer. Cold.

There is a character in a Richard Russo story (it's okay, Russo & King are both Republican and vote as such)...a Miss Beryl, great story...and she has a line of thought early on page 16 if it matters, one of the problems of being eighty was that you built up a pretty impressive store of allusions. Other people didn't follow them, and they made it clear that this was your fault. I know you're not eighty, a few years older than me if your on-line name is any indication, but maybe you could check out a thread in Rage. I think that's where it is...a member asked about some carvings in a desktop, wondered if that was an allusion to something or other. A few members weighed in but as yet I don't believe there is a clear answer. Maybe one does not exist. Anyway, welcome aboard. Goats know things. (Nobody's Fool is the Russo story.)

Just to be clear, I can't speak to Richard Russo's political leanings, but Stephen King is a Democrat and does not vote Republican.
