A mom buckles her daughter in as they prepare to try to leave the city .....fires burning on the sides of the road. This is so heartbreaking.

Fort McMurray convoys begin as evacuees roll through fire-ravaged city - Edmonton - CBC News

The people who escaped north are now being escorted by RCMP through the town. They will leave in groups of 50 vehicles. Through Ft McMurray there are RCMP vehicles blocking all intersections. No turning off the road to check your property or pick anything up. Everyone must drive straight through. Then, they will be allowed to drive unescorted but are not allowed to stop until they reach Edmonton. There are temporary refuelling stations set up along the route.

I've seen clips of how upset people were yesterday. I hope they follow the rules, otherwise, RCMP may not be able to continue.

staropeace --, or any Canadian......... I have a strange question---- first I must admit I am not familiar with Canadian laws/ rules, so please excuse the ignorance of my question.

Why aren't fire departments from the USA going to help? When there is a disaster in the US, fire companies/ electric companies gather groups and go to where they are most needed. This occurs internationally too. Is there a reason? More airpower that co ordinates with RCMP? Perhaps it is the landscape. Just very curious.

Sometimes they do and maybe later. Mexico helps and send over their firefighters.
