I will say that the guy who introduced me to scotch has a much finer palate than I do. He's the type who can sip and say, "Talisker. I'm guessing 12-year." And he likes a splash of water in his scotch. He says it releases the bouquet, or something froofy like that.

I'm mostly a beer kinda' dog. Really digging the Sam Adams Cold Snap. It's a tasty beverage

I do like Sangria as well. I'll occasionally dabble in Jaegermeister shots. A hold over from my gigging days.

Umm... well's there are a couple. Tequila is my first choice; then Mojitos. But on a really hot summer's day a beer. Like
Canadian beer best (of course) but also Stella Artois.

Ask Andy (my husband - born in Scotland and lived there until 2005/2006 when he immigrated to Canada) - your friend is right (not froofy at all!)

White wine.....mostly crisp fruity ones.

Amaretto....Disaronno....chilled or over ice, or mixed with sour mix....about 70/30 ratio
Vodka....Absolut....stored in the freezer....shots, or mixed with my secret recipe sipping punch or special lemonade
Tequila....Patron or Sauza Silver Label.....I can drink it like water, but it makes me mean. I prefer it mixed in Margaritas.
Crown Royal.....freezer cold.....shots or mixed with Sundrop

Amaretto, equal parts coke and lager - tastes like Dr pepper.

Southern comfort and coke.

Steamboat (So.Co, lime, lemonade).

I'm mostly a beer guy but I do like vodka and grapefruit juice, especially when made with our very own freshly picked ruby red grapefruits.
