Wondering if anybody has seen the trailer for the latest installment in the Alien franchise, it looks pretty good.. And directed by Ridley Scott that is a good thing.. I watched the original today, and one thing I noticed with today's technology and hi def TV, when the actor playing the robot(Ian Holm as Ash) is seated with his head on the table and he's burbling the liquids that apparently kept him going, you can see a small tube in the right side of his mouth.. that would be the left side as you're looking at his face. I am guessing they probably gave him a balloon with that stuff and he had to bite down and evacuate the bladder manually, I don't see any other way they could have done that.. But you can see the little hole from the tube in his mouth if you look close.. good stuff I hope this version in 2017 is as good as the original, I think the original was the best in the series so far..

Loved the original Alien, but even back then, I thought the computer interface was sci-fi hokey. But it was a great thrill ride.

My favorite of them all, and the family favorite, was Aliens. Cameron did such a good job on that, and without CG. The characters were solid and identifiable. Ripley, of course, and the plucky girl Newt. Hicks was heroic and Hudson was identifiable along with the other troopers, especially including Vasquez, and Paul Reiser has never acted better than as the villain.

Heard a spoiler on Aliens, wasn't interested, never saw it.

Went with movie savant son to see Alien: Resurrection. We had hoped for more. It seemed to focus on grotesqueries more than plot. Neither of us liked it all that much.

I saw the prequel one, but I forget the name. I have the impression of thinking it was a reasonable yarn, but apparently it didn't reach "memorable" status for me.

Anything with "Alien vs. Predator" in the title has not piqued my interest.

I'll probably see this latest one, but after it's out on the airwaves.

Yeah, those Alien vs Predator films seem like just reasons to invent mayhem..they seem to forget the original premise, dark unsettling spaces,a disquieting soundtrack, when the violence happened with the chestburster in the glare under the lights at the table,it was startling..

Oddly enough, I bought and watched Prometheus without a clue it was a part of the Alien multiverse. Had a couple of ...this looks familiar moments, but didn't really have an Ah-ha! until close to the end. I guess that's one of the reasons I fairly liked it.
I enjoyed the odd and never very well explored thoughts about humanity. One scene that struck me as brilliant was the one between David and the married guy. (I forgot his name...)Paraphrased, David asks why he thinks humans made beings like himself, AIs, and he flippantly says, "Because we can." To which ol' David posits, "How disappointing it would be if your creators said the same thing." I've thought about that a lot, humanity's insistence that there must be some all-knowing and powerful creator that fashioned us for some grand purpose. Imagine how wounded our pride as a species would be if we found out we were no more than an accident swept under a rug to out creator(s).

That's one reason I enjoyed the movie immensely, because I wasn't looking for an Alien prequel, just a good story. Some moments were cringe inducing, but it made a fairly decent film. Now granted, if I'd dove in expecting Aliens, I'd be sorely disappointed!

I was highly disappointed with Prometheus which is why I have no interest in seeing Alien: Covenant. The reviews seemed pretty decent though.
I didn't like Prometheus either,in fact fell asleep so I really don't know how it ends..I hope Covenant is not a preachy kind of man is bad, better mend your ways or look out kind of movie,I just want a damn good horror movie! Does anyone make those anymore?!

Seen it twice now, and it's safe to say Alien:Covenant is the third best in the series (IMO), and it helps make Prometheus a better film. With that said, it's still a fair way behind the first two, and there are real 'Hang on...WTF?' moments thanks to a script that's pretty loose in places.
I also heard a podcast with Ridley Scott after seeing it the first time in which he places great emphasis on logic in storytelling. Well, I have to say there are things in A:C (not to mention Prometheus!) which are not logical. I mean, at all. (And Prometheus ignores evolutionary biology right from the first sequence.)
I'm also not a massive fan of the way Sir Rid seems to want to retcon the whole thing,
not least because, in places, it risks making large parts of the earlier films non-canonical - pretty much all of Aliens onwards and even a few core concepts of Alien, which was already slightly affected by the whole Space Jockey 'revelation' in Prometheus
.

BUT it's worth a look and, as I say, is still better than Alien Cubed and miles ahead of Alien: Resurrection (aka (Cap'n Tightpants and the crew of the) Firefly Meets A Xenomorph (or ten)).
