It's also arguable whether Biehn and Paxton have ever produced performances on the same level.
I sure liked Biehn in Terminator as well as Tombstone. He was fine in the underwater movie... oh, heck, I can't remember the name of it now. But he goes nuts from the bends, or something. The role was kinda cooked, but that's what he had to do. I always felt Biehn was underused in Hollywood. Square-jawed, good-looking actor. Sort of like a potential Tom Cruise, but sane.

I thoroughly enjoyed Paxton in Weird Science. Played for laughs, sure. On the other hand, while he did a decent job in Twister, there were about 24,872 members of SAG who could've done that role with that range. I never saw an episode of Big Love, but I hear he was good in it.

Re: the movie making, though...have you see the extras and 'making of' featurettes at all? I'm not sure which other versions would have them, but the Alien Quadrilogy (9 disc box-set, which is the one I own) does. If you haven't, they're worth looking up. I'm sure you'd find them interesting.
I haven't. Honestly, while I liked Alien and have seen it a couple, three times, it isn't in my library. I didn't watch Alien 3, watched but didn't care for Alien 4. So Aliens is pretty much it for me in terms of the franchise, although I do have an extended version where we hear Ripley's and Hicks' first names, and other stuff.

Loved Alien and Aliens. Great films. I'm looking at a Xenomorph action figure sitting om my desk as I type this ;;D

The Directors Cut of Alien 3 is actually pretty good. Not great but much better than the theatrical release.

Resurrection was meh. Not the worst film I've seen but far from the best.

I was excited for AvP. Went to see it with my Dad as we were both huge fans of both franchises. It was OK.

AvP II
was a huge pile of Xenomorphic poop.

I'm in the minority of people who actually liked Prometheus. I saw it on Blu-ray though, not in the theater.

I feel the same about V as I do about the JJ Abrams Star Wars reboot. Meaning I'm praying they don't fu** it up anymore thant it already has been.

There have been some good video games based on the series.

Well, I knew someone would. :biggrin2:
Agree completely about the craftwork involved, and about Paul Reiser - perhaps he missed trick by not taking on more 'serious' roles. It's also arguable whether Biehn and Paxton have ever produced performances on the same level.

Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton have had several great roles after Aliens. Biehn was great in Planet Terror. Paxton was awesome in A Simple Plan and Frailty.

I grew up trying to watch aliens on vhs as an impressionable youngster this has to be my favourite Alien was a little too slow and thinky (yeah it makes sense) and when alien 3 came out i was well versed in the other 2 but really enjoyed the fear of no weapons as such to fight off this terrifying creature. Nothing is gonna beat the balls to the walls action of Aliens or the silent frightfest that is alien but for once i wish something would come close. They destroyed die hard and terminator and even the predator so please, please, please breath new life back into my childhood dreams of joining the colonial marines and join us on the express elevator to hell. Going down.

I never understood why Michael Biehn never became a super star actor. He had the good looks and a good body and was able to show some emotion. Hmmm.

The Abyss?
But, agreed. That was sort of my point - or was intended to be. Maybe it got lost or was badly made. He (and Bill Paxton) usually give solid performances, but have lacked that extra whatever-it-is to propel them to outright stardom - though listening to them in interviews (on DVD extras, etc) it doesn't really seem to bother them much. It seems to be more about the work than the celebrity and that's admirable (and probably the way it should be). They seem like normal, fairly humble, likeable guys and I guess some of that feeds into the performances they tend to give, just as certain 'stars' make it all about them, usually to the detriment of the film, or at least their character.
Either way, looking through their list of credits, neither have had what you might call bad or limited careers, though they're in that bracket of actors who have been in way more stuff than you think. I wasn't implying that they were otherwise bad actors (or at least, I hadn't intended to).

So instead of Blomkamp ruining another Alien movie it's going back to Scott, huh?

Don't get me wrong, The Martian was a great scifi flick, but Prometheus (except the visuals, which I thought were top notch) was terrible.

I think I'd rather have the Blomkamp's Alien movie, despite how mediocre and disappointing Chappie and Elysium were.

Didn't I hear a rumor that Scott was also going to make a sequel to Blade Runner? God...I hope not.
