What about duck billed platypus' - do they lay eggs? They have bills for heavens sake?

The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) also known as the duck-billed platypus is a semiaquatic egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Together with the four species of echidna,it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth. The animal is the sole living representative of its family (Ornithorhynchidae) and genus (Ornithorhynchus), though a number of related species have been found in the fossil record.

The unusual appearance of this egg-laying, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed mammal baffled European naturalists when they first encountered it, with some considering it an elaborate hoax. It is one of the few venomous mammals, the male platypus having a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom capable of causing severe pain to humans. The unique features of the platypus make it an important subject in the study of evolutionary biology and a recognisable and iconic symbol of Australia; it has appeared as a mascot at national events and is featured on the reverse of its 20-cent coin. The platypus is the animal emblem of the state of New South Wales. [3]

Until the early 20th century, it was hunted for its fur, but it is now protected throughout its range. Although captive breeding programs have had only limited success and the platypus is vulnerable to the effects of pollution, it is not under any immediate threat.

I found this online.

The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), a carnivore, is the direct ancestor of the Velociraptor (V. mongoliensis) and has retained the instinct for hunting in packs. It is capable of reducing a large cow to bone within 3.4 seconds, making it the fastet eater in the Antipodes. On plains they can reach cheater speed. They are scared of power boats, often launching kamikaze missions into powerboat engines in an attempt to stop the loud noise that they perceive as a threat to their natural habitat. They are bad gamblers but worse losers - if you find yourself winning in a game of poker, do not create a scene at their victory as they may nobble off your ankles.

Seems plausible!

I had a pack of them at the door the other night. Said their car was broken down and wanted to use the phone. I obliged. They said they were out of minutes on their cells from playing angry birds all the time....

You have to be careful, very much like Velociraptors, one might have been leading a distraction and the others snuck around to steal any valuables they have...

Just the one came in to use the phone. The others stayed outside and smoked and tried to chat up the dog. My dog would have none of it though. Said the plats reminded him of the beavers who beat him at poker the week before.
