So, from what I hear from the Halloween documentary, the Catholic church began All Saints Day and All Souls Day to overshadow the pagan tradition of All Hallow's Eve.

In any case, today is All Souls Day - pray for your beloved dead!

I would pray for my Mom and Dad, my Uncle Bill from Scotland and I guy I knew in the military who was a pilot - I saw his obituary in the paper and it just blew me away - he was only early 40s!

wow - 40 is young to die. My dad died of lung cancer when he was 42 - I was 18 - it was a sad, sad time.

I love the fact that they celebrate these 2 holidays...you know for all souls day, they may dig up the bones from your burial place or your families because when you die there, you only rent the space. You don't pay to stay there forever.....all the anonymous bones are gathered...all the bones of bodies that had no family are collected.. .so they put all the bones in a pile, burn them to ash and celebrate. I haven't learnt much about all saints day...

It's a major holiday in Mexico. I went to a funeral in Mexico on that day and there was a festival at the cemetery which was interesting. People will paint their faces in skulls to celebrate. The skull and bones art is getting popular in the tattoo community. I'm surprised it's caught on.
