I would like to encourage everyone to watch Oprah's Where Are They Now this coming Sunday. The new season starts with Matthew Shepard's parents.
Matthew Shepard, for those who don't know or remember, was a gay teen who was befriended by 2 young guys in Wyoming in 1998. They tortured and beat him and hung him off a barbed wire fence. He was so severely tortured and his face so traumatized, the only part that had no blood was where his tears washed the blood away.
He was found by a cyclist 18 hours after initial beating and the cyclist thought he was a scarecrow tied to the barbed-wire fence.
We have to stop this hate. Is violence and hatred what you want to be remembered for? This news story has stayed with me from the very first, and I would like to hear the update on his family, his foundation and the legacy he leaves when it comes to common human decency to the GLBTQI community.
