Why? Is that a lead in to the towers

It is Dark Tower connected, but as others mentioned earlier--it doesn't really matter if you read it before or after the series.
(I read it before and when I came to the connection later on in the DT journey, it just meant that I was able to go.. "oh, riiiiiight, I see.")

Every time I get a new Stephen King book I promise myself that this time I'll chew it up slowly, enjoy the taste, contemplate on the previous chapter I just read...and every time I'd be done really quickly because it is so darned good!

I would definitely start the dark tower but in between the DT BOOks I would read either 1 novel or 2 shorter books in between. That way u break it up some. I'm just but to start DT V. IT WENT like this. DT I, gunslinger, gone girl, DT II, DRAWING OF THE 3, racketeer, DT III, wastelands, silkworm, DT Wind through the keyhole. That way it lasts longer as well. And definitely read insomnia after the dt series. Not sure if u read it but do salems lot before dt
