Two thumbs up!
(Like one said in the video - the presentation is lacking).

You need to be at a Robbie Burns dinner where many men are in kilts, drinking a wee dram of Scotch and enjoying the evening's entertainment - usually Highland dancers.

When we eat it, it comes out on a plate with some mashed potatoes (tatties) and mashed turnip (neeps) on the side and it is actually very tasty :chew:

We can't go to the dinner this Sunday - I have to work during the day and I will be too tired to attend the festivities in the evening

:chuncky: Look at the lady in the upper left of this picture - she looks scared! :hopelessness:

I heard on NPR today that haggis has been on the American verboten list in grocery stores and restaurants because it's 15% sheep's lung, which was deemed "unfit for human consumption" by the FDA in 1970.

Happy Burns Day on Sunday anyway. I tried haggis in Edinburgh and it wasn't all that bad - the tatties and neeps made it much more palatable. I wouldn't want to have it every day, but I'd eat a few forkfuls on Burns Day in honor of brae Robbie.

Perhaps kale would be a suitable replacement for the lungs of a sheep then?

I tried Haggis at the Celtic Classic this past September, but it was after the Whiskey Tasting event so my recollection of the taste is a bit hazy. From what I can barely recall from the experience... a sourey mix of meat and mud comes to mind. They even had a Haggis Eating competition. Next year I think I’ll stick with Shepherd’s Pie and Bangers (not to be confused with Bangors) & Mash.

I think these people are being overly dramatic. I had haggis for the first time last October when we visited Edinburgh, Scotland and thoroughly enjoyed it. Granted, it's not for everyone but it's certainly not as bad as some of these people make out.

So, did it taste more like cotton or wool socks.....? :D

Where were you in Edinburgh when you tried it?

Had it in a few places. The one place I remember it well was when we went for a day trip out of Edinburgh and visited Loch Lomond. Within Edinburgh, at our hotel and a place we stopped for breakfast.
On a completely different topic (sorry for the thread hi-jack) is your husband ever a real numpty? Mine is getting on my nerves (even after almost 10 years together!)

Sorry - just a random thought :a11: - I guess he has a point that I should get ready to go out but it's my day off (dagnabit!)

I've had haggis with neeps and tatties and love it. The haggis tastes a bit like white pudding. Anytime we go to Scotland I have to have it.

Loved Loch Lomond! *swoon*
I had mine in the little eatery in St. Giles cathedral. It really isn't as bad as people say it is - it's the thought of what goes into it that skeeves people out.
