I have three comments to make, but two of them are inappropriate jokes, and I'm not sure about this one at all. So forget the other two and go with this one:

I can't hold it anymore. Talking about Australia and the lack of brush, all I could think of was, "Well, it's a fairly young country still."

I apologize. Sincerely. But I've been biting my tongue, and the bleeding has to stop.

Has anyone read Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden? In this story a young girl's virginity is auctioned off.

My point? She is in charge of losing her own virginity.

Smart? Brilliant yet sad too.

Beats being raped as a first time.

Financially she will benefit.

Emotionally, she will cry that it isn't someone she 'loves' (maybe for life).

But how many people actually lose their virginity to someone they love? Isn't it almost always like what goes on in the Bob Seger song "Night Moves"??

I used her she used me
But neither one cared
We were getting our share

....mutual lust....
I guess it is often like this....who knows how fondly she recalls their initial 'couplings'?....Maybe she looks back at those times with longing for the desire or the 'carelessness' or the sheer volume...

What does everyone else think of this 'auction'?

Sure, and I always change lyrics when I sing** that song to better describe my own car and the blonde back then (now known as Grandma).

**liberally interpreted. I'm not sure you can call my style of bellowing "singing."

Somewhere in my forties or fifties, I got past making judgments on people's sex behaviors. Once I accepted that just about anyone is capable of just about anything at just about any given time, I relaxed a lot more and looked at it more as interesting phenomena rather than behavior to cast aspersions on.

It's interesting that an unknown woman's virginity has such a high price on it. There's a lot of perspectives to someone ponying up for this, and none of them make a lick of rational sense to me.

It's interesting that she has the attitude and, frankly, the gumption to carry the action out like this and to take on the notoriety.

There are worse ways to lose one's virginity than ending up richer by half a million.

Did I read that she's going to give a substantial chunk to charity? Well, isn't that nice, if pointless (except, I suppose, for the charity). I'm not sure that saying some of the proceeds are for charity mitigates the fact of prostitution. It doesn't get any more respectable because you say you're going to do good things with the money.

I view this as interesting and am not in the 'good or bad' camp. Is it wrong? Is prostitution wrong? Is she selling a chunk of her soul? Is she really clever in her method to lose her virginity? If it Is wrong, why? Hmmmm. I need to think about this further. Thank you for todays ponderings.
