Woke to the sound of singing Doves and raindrops. One thing for sure in Oregon, if you don't love the rain you are in the wrong place. Summer is coming. Right?
Rain and thunderstorms here in Memphis today. I think I have mentioned this no less than 4 times on the board already today. I love it - I think I would love to live in Oregon.

After watching the TV series Grimm and seeing the beautiful scenery shown there, I think I would move there if I had the money!

Newspaper says there's only 25" of snow on the ground, but that depends on where you look. Nothing where I blow a path open to the back door but next to the path there is still a bank that starts at five feet high on one end and tapers down to the proverbial 25" or so. Was out spreading the snow around so it will melt and saw a robin, its beak full of something...if he/she found a worm my hat's off to him/her...but maybe it was nest material. Tried to repair one apple tree damaged by the snow...hope it works, split branches at a Y.

There's a lot of rain, and enough to be mildly annoying for me. In the coastal areas, anyway. I think once you get to the other side of the mountains, it's more of a high plains type of area.

But it sure does produce some nice greenery, the type of lushness that we simply don't see in our semi-arid world.

Multnomah Falls, outside of Portland.

Oh, heck, one more. It was on the trail up to the falls. See, I call this green. We don't get this in Colorado.

HAHA! I remember my first year at UO--it started raining in October and didn't quit until May :) I seemed depressing (I came from a freaking desert!)... until I came home at Christmas to a ton of snow. Then I was glad to go back to Eugene!

Yeah, the lack of jobs in my field is also why we're not there.

Expensive??? I live in LA!!!! Where a one bedroom condo cost half a million dollars!!!

Isn't that crazy? I have friends who rented what was basically a garage in Santa Barbara for something like $800/ea (there were 4 of them, so yeah). Prices in the Pac NW (at least quite a bit of it) are predicated on the high salaries from the 'net workers. Unfortunately, if you don't make that kind of $ it can be very difficult to live decently.

The main reason I'd hesitate to live in Oregon, believe it or not, is not being able to pump my own gasoline. It's like every time I need to fill up, the state is hitting me with a "PROTECTIONISM OVER PROGRESS" mallet.

I don't understand - does this mean there are no self serve pumps in Oregon or what?

That's correct. State law. You have to wait for the attendant to come to you. To my understanding, New Jersey has the same law. You cannot pump your own gasoline. You might be competent to do so in 48 other states, but not there.

I don't think we even have a service station (in the whole country) that will pump your gas now. Somebody up and took the 'service" out of Service Station. (I don't mind for myself, but it does mean that I'm late on occasion if I need to pump for someone elderly.)

Sure, I understand that.

But if I'm in a hurry (and I usually am), I want the option, doggone it!
I definitely see your point. I want the option to have people pump my gas and I don't. Dang progress has taken away my choices!

Just messing with you..... Though it would be nice to have the option, either way.
