I was thinking the same thing. Great minds think alike I guess.
According to the newspapers here it was a mistake. It was proseparatists in eastern Ukraine taking out a plane they thought belonged to the Ukrainian military with a big missile, something called i think BUK, that is of russian origin. Horrible.
Maybe this will help:
Gallina is west of Volgograd.
Not sure of the other members cities.
Plane crash was near Donets'k.
Just look at profile of Serhly Kryhun-- he's in Kiev, Ukraine
Our Newspapers also say that the airline company, among many airline companies, have been warned that it could be unsafe. But to fly aropund Ukraine would mean a big detour seemingly that would cost a lot of money so the aircompanies didn't lissen. There is some kind of air highway for flights between asia and Europe and the other way that passes over Ukraine. Now they do fly around but it is sad that it always takes something tragic to happen before they take safety measures.
I'm hoping it was a mistake. I don't even want to think about a group of people who would want to do this on purpose.
The question remains though. If it was the separatists who did indeed shoot this missile off and down the jet.........Where did they get it from? This wasn't just some shoulder fired rocket, but a much more sophisticated piece of weaponry.
Watching MSNBC this morning I heard about this. So tragic.
Malaysia Plane Crash Victims Included About 100 AIDS Conference Attendees, Report Suggests
That's all horrible. So many lives lost... Here we all pray it stops, it's hard to even watch the news, the situation is absolutely awful and silly at the same time, as Russia and Ukraine have always been related, and now they want to start the war it seems.
As for the origin of the missile... I have read the news in a lot of foreign newspapers today (for some of you that do not know me well, I am from Russia) and I know they all claim it was a Russian missile. But in fact it was Ukranian, it was already proved. And the video that tends to prove it was a Russian missile was recorder a day before the plane crushed (there are articles about that on the Internet now, too).
Well, anyway, I am far from politics, personally I do not know a lot about it and I don't want to be involved and I'm not taking any sides... I just want the world to know the truth, and unfortunately a lot of resources mislead us. I hope we will all learn the truth about this accident. And so far my prayers go to those who lost their relatives and to those who escaped Ukraine today and the days before (only today there are more than 300 people who crossed the border to run from the war). Let's pray the situation calms down soon and they find a way to gain peace!
This was a missile much more complicated than that. According to news here they have used a BUK before to shot down an Ukrainian plane and killed 20 persons. The missile, we must assume came from russia, This isn't a weapon that just lies around and you happen to find in your neighbours barn or something. They have, the separatists i mean, some tanks that also must come from somewhere. Of course Russia denies it but they have to have got their advanced weapons from somewhere. If an investigation, a proper investigation, can be carried out it shouldn't be too difficult to see what hit it. These things leaves traces.
I'm all for peace. Lets hope this tragedy makes all stop and think a bit. It is far too early too say with absolute certainty what happened. Hope the whole situation calm down. We can do that at least. Hope.
I can tell you for sure that BUK is a Ukranian weapon, it is produced in Donetsk, not in Russia.
I think you mis-read my post. I was saying that the missile used was much more sophisticated than what would be expected from such a group as those separatists in Ukraine.
That's the only thing that matters, I agree with you. It's not even important who is to blame as long as people suffer and die. The war should stop, and that is the only right thing we all know.

And Lina of course! Thanks for touching base on the issue.
With all due respect to the (usually) superb pilots that carry us around when we fly, that was one stupid MH pilot to fly over a known war airspace.
What the hell was he thinking??
Orders from above. Fly as straight as possible. Don't waste fuel. That's how airlines work. Blame his boss, not the pilot.
Exactly, can't blame the guy for doing his job. But the powers that be above him need to learn some things are more important than pinching pennies. I'm as thrifty as the next man but I think I'd drawn the line on flying planes through war zones.
The Canadian guy that died.. university graduate studying in Romania..
CNN is doing tributes to those who died in the crash--
