I'm missing Frankie boy here. I've always had a weak spot for"Love and marriage". Really liked the version that he sang as duet with Celeste Holm in High Society. It had Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly(her last role before she became royal) and Frank Sinatra in the leads. Good musical.

I was born in the wrong era...Dean Martin is my favorite artist! Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters do an amazing version of Don't Fence me in...my all time favorite song...*sigh*

I'm not sure how old you are but your post made me think of a young guy we had a work a few years ago. He was in his early 20s and he listened to Dean Martin a lot. He also liked Sublime. ;-D It always surprised me when I would walk up to his work area and he was listening to Dean Martin.

As far as very old music goes, I listened to many of the old blues guys. I have several cds of artists like Blind Willie McTell and Robert Johnson. I also like to listen to Woodie Guthrie.

I'm amazed at how well the rock music from 1967-1979 has stayed popular. Many of the young people I know listen to modern artists but also love bands from the 70s. To put this in perspective, I go back to when I was a teenager in the 70s. The oldest thing we listened to was 1964. The Beatles and The Stones early stuff was the dividing line. Anything before 1964 was on the oldies stations and when I heard that stuff, it sounded ancient. ;-D We were only going back 10-15 years. The kids that are listening to 70s bands now are going back 40 years.

My lifetime favorite singer is Otis Redding. A while back, Joe Hill did a thing on twitter where he was discussing 'foundational' songs, books, etc: things that aren't necessarily your favorites, but that set your taste forever for a particular type of writing/song. This is one of my 'foundational' songs--so many, many memories attached:

This is actually my favorite song by Mr. Redding:

I wish I was in my 20s! I am a child born in the 70s and grew up through the 80s...I still love a little bit of Rick Astley and Spandau Ballet but Dean...well he is just a dream ;;D
