If I remember correctly the series does get a little hinky somewhere around the 4th season, but it still keeps you wondering what happens next.
I'm nearly done with Luther, then I'm moving on to The Wire. Elba is so quirky and strong as an actor. I really like that. He moves like no other actor. That sounds odd but I wonder if you noticed that about him.
I haven't watched Luther. In The Wire he's very reserved but calculated, the strong silent type. It takes a good actor to pull that off. Like Brando.

Yes Brando, I can see that. In Luther he's a time bomb sorta guy, that you can watch tick until ka-boom.
Vincent D'Onofrio is another quirky actor that makes his singularity work in a wonderful sort of way. I loved him in Law and Order CI. It took me months to figure out that he was the same actor who played "Gomer Pyle" in Full Metal Jacket. I couldn't believe my eyes.

His character 'Stringer Bell' never even raised his voice, but like Brando's 'Vito Corleone' , you knew if you crossed him you were a dead man. I bet he can remember his lines better than Brando though. Saw a great interview with Robert Duvall, who'd acted alongside Brando in a few films, mainly The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. He said that Brando would write his lines down on a placard and have someone hold them, or place them in strategic places. So as he looked up in to a tree to read his line, there was Duvall mooning him. Would have loved to have seen that.

Been catching up on the Law & Order oeuvre when I'm up with insomnia or pain. I've always just been a casual viewer of L&O, all three versions. I love the old L&O ones with Jerry Orbach and the CI ones with D'Onofrio. The cast of SVU was best with the Stabler-Benson and Munch-Tutuola pairings, IMO. Munch has always been a favorite character, ever since Homicide: Life On The Streets. I do rather like procedurals of any kind but there are so many L&O I haven't seen, it's cool to catch up.
I like the ones with D'Onofrio, but the old ones with Orbach are good as well. Better than CSI. Insomnia is a real drag. Sometimes I think some L&O episodes can get a bit 'preachy'. Munch looks like nerd psychiatrist cop.
