I went from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10. I imaged my hard drive before doing so, good thing. After the update to Windows 10, I noticed all my user info was gone, documents, pics, locally stored music, etc. I Googled the problem it told me the old user files would be stored in a folder under My Computer. Checked the folder, it was empty. So, all my files under my former user name were zapped. I went ahead and copied them over into the new user and I really tried to like Windows 10 but I just couldn't. Ended up blowing Win 7 Pro image back onto my hard drive, business as usual now. Windows 10 looks flashy but it doesn't seem to have much steak, just a bunch of sizzle. Just my opinion.

...wait. When I went to the Windows 10 page and did the thingy (technical term), I got the message that my version of Windows 7 wasn't compatible.
But now, there's that little windows 10 picture on my task bar.
:umm:
I would suggest that you check all of your settings/options carefully. (their 'sharing' option is somewhat questionable and is set to be the default--and apparently it keeps reverting even after you manually change it back)

I'm so confused...
It sounds like the download has taken effect even though it said it was incompatible. Take a look at this link to protect your privacy.
(There may be other issues that you might like to ask Jordan about too. Also, there is a link in the Website area that tells you which OS you are using, so you should probably start with that to make sure you actually are running 10 now.)

Hmmm... [thinking] I suppose too the icon could just be the "invite" to download 10?

Edit: check which OS you are running from the link in this thread.

Thankee. I have a site bookmarked that says how to opt out of those sections. I'm bookmarking this one, too.

So what kind of issues can I expect with Windows 10 if I am going to buy a brand new tower with it already installed? Am I going to have to jump thru a bunch of hoops to get, let's say, my newer Canon printer to work with it?
So far, it looks like there are no issues any different than you would have found on Win 7. Everything I want to use plugs in just fine. But that's only an observation from my own brief experience.

Well. I discovered something new. New to me, anyway.
System restore is, by default, turned off for Windows 10. I found this out after catching a bit of a bug after updates I didn't ask for. In the past, my go-to fix is a quick system restore to make it go away.
Not this time.
I've uninstalled the offending updates, and I hope I've fixed the problem (Bing being set as my default everything, my file paths getting screwed with, Cortana turning itself on after I opted out at setup. That sort of thing). If not, I might just reset back to Windows 7 and call it a day. I've LOVED having 10. Right up until now. Not being able to system restore to fix a bug is a HUGE deal breaker for me. I've turned system restore on now, very easy to do, but if my problems persist and I can't get rid of them, it's not worth doing.
IF I get Windows 10 back after that, the first thing I do, and the moral of this story, boys and girls, is TURN ON SYSTEM RESTORE FOR WINDOWS 10. If you haven't already.
That is all.
