I liked the first, tolerated the second (I thought I'd tear hear out over all the unnecessary clothing, food, and furniture descriptions), and liked the third. It was an interesting story, I thought. Not the best writer, but I'd bet that the books would have improved if he'd had a chance to edit them again--I've not seen a book that isn't improved exponentially in the editing process (including the writer's contributions).

As far as the movies, the Swedish were better (though I really liked Stellan Skarsgard in the U.S. remake--I might have a little crush there).

I absolutely loved this series! It was like a breath of fresh air to me. I'm really not much of a 'thriller' reader, although I do read Cornwell, Grisham, Jance, Lansdale, Dan Brown. Not really into the murder mysteries, so these books were very intriguing to me. I thought the storyline was fantastic and that Larsson really took it up a notch in the third book. The conspiracy was far-reaching! Steig has created one tough female character that's going to live on forever. Lisbeth is not someone to trifle with! There are definately parts of the books that needed more editing- too much descriptions of things and some of the politics confused me along the way. But, overall, it is an amazing series. Don't know if I'll get the 4th book tho. Usually books that were left unfinished by the deceased writers and finished by someone else don't stand up to what's come before i.e. Micro by Crichton.
