Has anyone seen Dawn of the Planet of the Apes yet? My husband and I are going tomorrow and I'm excited. I'm an Apes fanatic! I love all 5 of the original movies and also the first reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I used to have models, trading cards and comic books of the original movies when I was a kid. Watched the TV show as well. Even went to an all-day screening of all 5 movies with my friends back in the early 70s. I love the Apes!

...I plan on seeing it, and from what I've viewed-they are doing a faithful but modern spin on the franchise...

I loved those movies in the 70s! If you like this one, then I'll take the kids to see it at the drive in - that would be so cool and retro!

To be honest, I haven't seen the new ones. I'm a fan of the old ones. The makeup was ghastly, but the actors really committed. There's just no replacing Charlton Heston screaming "It's a madhouse! A MADHOUSE!"

Saw the new one today. It was quite good, but not as good as the first one with James Franco. I felt that one had much more of a human story, if you will. Dawn was more battle oriented, but did include a few touching moments. The acting is all first rate, especially that of Andy Serkis, who plays the lead ape, Caesar. It's amazing what they do with that body-capture (or whatever it's called) technology!

Loved all of the original ones from the '70's! Remember seeing the original one with some friends and while they were all commenting on the girl that Charlton Heston hooked up with, my eyes were glued to him in the loin cloth. ;;D I think this was a watershed moment for me.... I am looking forward to seeing the latest installment in the franchise! I might go see it tomorrow or Tuesday.

I have a shameful confession.

All my scifi geek friends back in the '70s, and even other people, liked the Planet of the Apes. And I just never did. I watched the first one, wasn't impressed except that the ending was really pretty good, and at least they didn't confuse apes and monkeys, which drives me crazy, and I just didn't tune in to any others.

Yeah, I know. It's akin to a scifi fan not liking Star Trek or Star Wars. But you can't help what you like, or don't like.

I've also tried to watch some of the latest stuff, and thud. Just can't. It's like I have imagination impairment. I'm saying, "Gosh, look at the time," seven minutes into the yarn.

So glad to hear they're enjoyable to others! Support your local pongids!

It's cool you know. I loved Star wars but never understood what was so special about Star trek. And never has. Spock! Bah! Give me Chewbacca any day!
