When it's something like this that is part of a publicity promotion, he expects this sort of thing to happen and takes it in stride as part of the business but it's a different matter when he's having personal time and feels he's within his rights to say no to a request for an autograph under those circumstances. I would guess that any celebrity would appreciate having their privacy respected at those times. It has on occasion become necessary to not return to certain hotels because there is an underground network that lets the professional autograph hunters know when a celebrity is staying at an establishment and they then hang out by the entryways to get an autograph which they later sell. I was amazed when they even showed up at one of the private airport terminals in Germany as the only way they would have known about it is if someone there let the word out. Bad enough they showed up but a couple were especially rude when Steve told them he was very tired and didn't want to do any more autographs, shouting out a "Thanks for nothing, Mr. King." :glare:

This made me ashamed on the attitude of my german folks. :facepalm_smiley:
I fully understand if you go to an official event with a scheduled signing to get his autograph.
But you shouldn't stalk him or invate his privacy.
He looked axhausted in the video. This is not cool.

I can't help but agree. It's sad that people do this, but that's what happens when you're famous.
For me, it would even be an honor to chat with him. Despite his famous works and genius in the horror industry, really he's just your normal Joe Schmo and I like it that he's humble and yet proud of his work rather than thinking himself better than anyone else.

Very entertaining video, in a sense, to watch. But I tend to agree -- this is ridiculous.

I have to say, though, I wish Mr. King had simply walked by. Even if true fans were present, if it were me, I would have just walked by. I would have said hello to everyone and smiled in sincere fashion, but there's really no need to receive an autograph like that. I probably would have tried to shake some hands.

But honestly, he seemed in the mood, and he seemed to enjoy the attention. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Only thing is, I have a feeling these were pros trying to get the signatures. He probably should have walked by and apologized. If he actually gave that crowd some attention, he should respond to a few posts now and then on this board. Although if he never does, that's okay, too. (Plus Ms. Mod is kind enough to essentially take care of that function, that works for me.)

Just a bit of a tangent: When I was younger, I was into meeting celebrities and getting their autograph. Nowadays, all I care about is perhaps getting a question answered through email. Meeting, say, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick matters not -- but I would love to know how he accomplished a certain fill on a certain song. We all have our one exception, of course. Whereas I really don't want to meet Mr. King or hang out with him, I would love to meet and work with Dan Aykroyd, since he was in one of the first movies I ever saw, and he's a fascinating individual on many levels (I have met him through his vodka signings a couple times, but unfortunately I'm not cool enough like others around me to say too much under those circumstances; my hats off to people who can actually talk to celebrities). Most people here probably have Mr. King as their exception, which is certainly understandable; hope you get to meet him. I do, however, treasure my autographed hardcover of "The Tommyknockers," which the author signed through the mail when he was doing that. I actually have a postcard and a letter from him as well; amazing he found the time to write people back even as he started to become famous.

Une marmotte :)

Ce matin j'ai vu une marmotte de toute beauté = This morning I saw a most pulchritudinous groundhog.
Ah, oui, oui! J'aime les moufettes (aussi)!
(I hope I translated that right - it should say "I like skunks (too)!"

People have this false sense of entitlement when it comes to celebrities. It's as if being famous makes you immune to everyday struggles or emotions, like your not allowed to get bothered by things that normal people would explode over. If King had told those people to leave him alone, it would have been all over the internet about how he Doesn't care about his fans, is an egomaniac, doesn't deserve what he has, etc etc etc.

I remember working at a publix grocery store when I was a teenager, it was really close to this neighborhood called Avila where lots of guys who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lived. There was a standing rule in the store that asking for an autograph or in any way pestering them was grounds for an automatic termination without review, Just one complaint and you were fired, no questions asked.

I never heard it called a moufette, I call them "putois" which I believe comes from " tu pues, toi " = "You stink"
Maybe this is a Canadian French version of the word "skunk". Parisienne or the French spoken in France is different from what French Canadians speak.

We saw an enclosure at our local zoo recently and of course everything in Canada has to be in both official languages (English and French) and I noticed the translation at the skunk exhibit.

Luckily Mr. or Mrs. Skunk was nowhere in sight :biggrin2::icon_eek: (I wonder if the skunks at the zoo have been "de-scented" by having their glands removed?)
