Many times in the "What Are You Reading?" thread, there are some great recommendations from our members. I thought I'd start a thread that's a little more specific.

Do you have a book in your To-Be-Read pile that you're wondering is any good?
Are you thinking about downloading/buying a book, but not sure if you would like it?
I thought we could throw out a few titles here, and members could give their opinions (of course, without spoilers), to help us make decisions about what to read next.

For example, I know if skimom2 likes a book, generally I will like it too, due to the fact that we're twinners!

Here's my first title about which you can give your opinion: I Am Legend. I was flipping through the TV channels, and saw a bit of the movie with Will Smith. Seems like I remember that a lot of people think the book is awesome? What do you think?

I've always enjoyed Richard Matheson's fiction whether in print, television or movie dramatizations. "I Am Legend" has held up well over the decades and is still very effective. I could prattle on about the historical significance of "I Am Legend" has made, but why bother? Those who are fans of the genre already know about the place of honor that Richard Matheson and his works occupy and those not familiar with him should have the fun of discovering his stories on their own. Suffice to say "I Am Legend" is a classic story and the other stories are worth your time as well. The movie versions aren't great, but "The Omega Man" is one of my guilty pleasures.

Thank you, Checkman. I have downloaded the book, and it is waiting on my Kindle!

I recently purchased "The Stand". The original version. For those that have read it, is it much different than the uncut, extended edition?
I read the original version when I was about 19 (a loonngggg time ago!), then read the uncut version about 5 or 6 years ago. I loved them both! I think most people tend to like the original version, because it's more focused? Not sure.

I liked the chapters that provided more details about the collapse of civilization that were in the 1990 version. Another thing I liked was the confrontation between Fran and her mother which wasn't there in the 78 version. The one thing I found disconcerting in the 90 version was it was so obviously a seventies tale and didn't fit with the 1990 setting. The original is set in 1980 which means the late seventies. It isn't as jarring. Amazing what a difference of just ten years can make.

I've got about 100 pages left to go in Finders Keepers. I'm thinking of reading Andy Weir's The Martian next. It's received lots of praise, and the movie adaptation is due out later this year. Has anyone here read it yet?
No - I was just rereading The Shining and you reminded me of the part where he called martinis "martians".

I bought Finders Keepers just recently. How would you compare it to Revival? or Mister Mercedes? Did you enjoy it?

They are both very different from Revival, so it's hard to compare. Both Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers have been quite good. Hard to put down. I've really enjoyed both, and I'm looking forward to End of Watch.

I started Revival and yes - it does seem to be quite different.

I liked Mr. Mercedes, and I am saving Finders Keepers for August, after my husband goes back up North, so I can focus on it better. :)

Have you started this book yet Grant87? I just downloaded it to my Kindle and have read a couple of pages. Curious as to what your impressions are since I assume you are ahead of me.
