I re-read these a LOT, love them, (there are 8 now, in this series alone, starts a little slow, but then, oh my so much happens & never what's expected) on Book 2 at the moment, again, along w/ The Stand, which I'm nearly done & then the library had Revival come in Large Print, so am 3/4 into that. Different times I'm in the mood for different things. Have a Michael Crichton to followup, something about pirates, lol. Been busy, but having fun.

I've been working my way up to Ulysses(?) (Joyce), but I don't think I'm quite ready yet.

looked today 8/11/15, the bundle is $60 now, lol, good thing I have the paperbacks.

Near the top of my TBR pile is The Way of Sorrows, by Jon Steele. It is the final volume of his Angelus Trilogy. These books are well above your average thrillers and though they are steeped in religious dogma and angels and demons populate the stories, I find their end of world threats much more plausible for some reason.

Joyce Carol Oates is a writer that I've never been drawn to but from what I can gather she is prolitic and writes in many different genres. Is this accurate? I have read only one of her books, We Were The Mulvaneys. Please, feel free to share any recommendations. Although she isn't on my TBR list (I've already selected three books from it) I'm curious to know if I'm missing out on a great author. I am sharing a brief video that The New Yorker did which is a window into her daily writing life.

I like her! She floats a bit across the genrelines as she likes in a literary way. Writes very good. Its not fast paced but can be captivating. The Mulvaneys were never one of my faves. Some of mine are Carthage, The Accursed, Blonde and The Sacrifice. She is an author constantly mentioned at Nobeltimes but i dont think she will get it though she is worth it. I've read far from all of her output but of what i read the 4 books mentioned are my top choices. At least from thinking back. She is worth a read somewhere in the future. Definitively.

I'm about a quarter of the way through The Count of Monte Cristo. Best prison escape I have ever read. No offence to Shawshank, but this was really extreme. Now he is out and about finding people from his past. Next up Bernard Cornwell Stonehenge. Looking forward to that as I've finished The Last Kingdom series.

I really liked Carthage by Oates. Think Gone Girl, but the third act doesn't fall all to hell.

I always thought that it was like if she had read Gone Girl and thought to herself "What a world of wasted opportunities!" and decided to show what it could have been plus that she added her particular blend to the story. Gone Girl could have been a really good one, now its just a promise that never was fulfilled (the last third is really bad).

Havent read either Mudwoman or The Falls. Have the Falls in translation but havent read it. I prefer original language if possible.
