I think these realistic dolls are great! Everyone can identify with them because we aren't perfect people.

BUT, I have to say, I'm still in the Barbie camp. Unrealistic measurements and all. I loved BArbie. As a child, I never once felt like I should look like her. Not ever. She was a beautiful doll and I owned all her sh*t . I have fond memories of playing with her and my friends bringing over their stuff and we had whole Desperate Housewife neighborhoods 30 years before the show!

Yeh I was never really a doll girl...always too busy on my skateboard, riding my bike, rollerskating, and climbing trees, ha. But, I think these new dolls are great. I'm not sure how old you are Dana Jean--and wouldn't dream of asking--but I think there's a lot more pressure on kids/people these days to try and create that Barbie look that was once considered unattainable.

The amount of surgery people have now in the name of achieving society's idea of "beauty" is quite frightening. I've read about teenagers having nose jobs, boob jobs, liposuction, weight loss surgery etc...it's never ending. Yet the reaction of these kids to the new doll was amazing, they all identified with her, and felt she reminded them of someone they knew, was really pretty, normal etc...just like them. Amazing. :smile2:

Every year I get my wife a whimsical surprise gift at Christmas. The other year I got her a complete set of 1997/1998 Full Moon Limited Edition Puppet Master Dolls, all new and in unopened packages. Blade, Leech Woman, Jester, Pinhead, Six Shooter, Torch, Tunneler and Totem. She was thrilled to get them and immediately proceeded to open the packages on every single one of them. I was horrified.

About the same size as Barbies, but much better. :)

This "Normal Barbie" Comes With Cellulite, Stretch Marks, Acne, And Tattoos

Aww, I absolutely love these dolls and hope they are a success. It's worth watching the video at the end of the article--with the schoolchildren giving their opinions on both dolls--hearing their opinions actually made me feel quite tearful. It's amazing how children see things for what they really are.
I do not think these dolls will catch on. Why would a young girl identify with a doll having stretch marks or cellulite? They do not recognize this. I think young girls can be even more enraptured by what is considered...pretty.
