Well, it appears I am either psychic or wicked smaht (as we Bostonians are want to say).

The Red Sox have hired Dave Dombrowski to be head of baseball operations. Ben Cherington, the current Sox GM, promptly resigned.

They won't fire John Farrell while he is undergoing chemo. However, god help him if the team sucks when he gets back next season. They will certainy fire him then. And deservedly so. He has had only one wining season in his career as a manager. Granted that season was 2013 when the Sox won the World Series but still.

Did Mike Fiers have pine tar in his glove during no-hitter?

If it's not pine tar, I'd like to see him bring forth the glove and prove it. Pine tar would not wash off easily would it?

He doesn't have to...looks like he got away with it.

Non-story. If he was using pine tar the umpires would have noticed it when they randomly check the baseballs during the game. It would have made the baseballs very sticky and there would be a lot of dirt stuck on the ball on pitches that hit the ground.

That picture is not proof of anything. Could just be the reflection of the lights or more likely rosin residue from the rosin bag the pitchers can legally use or glove oil stain. I have them on my outfielders glove from when I broke it in. A pitcher that is using pine tar on the ball would have it in pocket of the glove so he could rub it into the ball not on the thumb of the glove.

Sounds like sour grapes from the Dodgers about being no-hit. You know, much like that non-issue that has hung around for 8 months in the NFL because the opposing team got their lunch handed to them....................

I didn't think about the umps actually checking balls throughout the game. But it makes sense it would get noticed that way.

I was also thinking.....if there were any truth to it, it would have shown up on the Internet. And I do not mean the one picture of what appears to be something on the glove. By now people have gone through the video of the game frame by frame, and if Fiers was using something, there would be pictures of him putting his fingers on the tar (or whatever). As that has not shown up...he didn't cheat.

Good for him. I think that was his first complete game and it was a no hitter. At home too? I think it was.

I came face-to-face with a bat this morning. Good thing. I thought white-nosed disease had wiped them out...and it has put a hamper on the bat population. They're so amazing. All of a sudden, there he was, turns on a dime, flutters away. I didn't have time to react. How do they manage to fly?

...oh...I see...we're talking baseball. How shameful and inconsiderate of me to start talking about bats. :(

It's better that you talk about bats and not balls. ;-D

I seem to be mostly talking to myself. (Much like IRL.)

Anyway, Blue Jays have a double header today. This means they may win the division with a win, rather than, winning with a Yankee loss.

We are also anxiously waiting to see when Tulowitzki gets back in the line-up. They have to let him actually play this week...his first game back cannot be post season. And, it was the last double header that he got injured...so you know....curses and luck and all that. We are all a bit worried. (Legit in a way. A game gets cancelled because of weather, and the next day, the ground is wetter than ideal. And players are more tired...though Tulo was hurt in the first game of the double.)

....10 consecutive losses for my Reds, and they say Price's job is safe????....he's a good dude, I've met him-but he should have stayed as a pitching coach....this is the worst the club has done in quite some time...rebuilding?....more like a major renovation!....

Phillies fans just wear paper bags over our heads.

Well, there's always next year, or the year after that, or the year after that... :(

I had to search who this Price you mentioned is. (Our Price could be elected Prime Minister next month.) anyway, found a voice recording of your Price full of f-bombs. (April this year I think.) gotta say....I like him.

...like I say, I got to meet him during the Reds Caravan this past Spring, and he's a likeable guy-but just hasn't produced as a Manager and his players fell off the production wagon games ago....I don't even watch the games anymore it's gotten so dismal and infuriating...

You have one of those that say Red Sox? :facepalm_smiley:

No need for that. There is hope for Bosox. Just think where they would be if they addressed their problems in June instead of after the All Star break?

Expect to see Han Ram jettisoned and Sandoval right behind him. I also see David Price or Johnny Quateo in a Red Sox uniform next year (maybe both).

I should maybe explain, it's not f-bombs that make me like him. It's the reason. I agree so much with what he was saying.
